All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/york/ _______________________________________________ Veteran Wounded at Antietam Dead George Myers, who was rescued among dying soldiers on the battlefield of Antietam during the Civil war, died Tuesday at his home in York. Mr. Myers was sick for several years, but the decline in health that resulted in his death set in last July. The cause of death was influenza. The deceased was eighty-one years of age. Private Myers served his enlistment in the Civil war with Company K, One Hundred and Thirteenth regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteers. On September 17, 1862, during the battle of Antietam he was shot through the lung and he was found in a dying condition between two dead comrades. Army surgeons removed him to the regimental hospital and saved his life. The Hanover Herald – Saturday, February 1, 1913
