Ritter Ephraim Gelwix Ritter, Esq., a prominent citizen of Penn township, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. John H. Krentler, ??? Becker Mill road, Friday, July 5, at 7:50 p.m. Mr. Ritter’s death came very suddenly, after eating a hearty supper. Although suffering from a complication of diseases for a number of years, the immediate cause of his death was apoplexy. His age was 73 years, 6 months and 8 days. Deceased filled the office of Justice of the Peace of Penn township for a number of years, and was elected to different township offices. He was a Democrat of the old school, and known for his strict integrity, and was highly esteemed by all who knew him. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Ephraim Ritter, and was born near Rossville, York county. He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. John H. Krentler, with whom he lived since the death of his wife, which occurred March 11th, 1909. He is also survived by one step-daughter, Mrs. John Brown, of Abilene, Kansas; a brother, John L. Ritter, of Chapman, Nebraska, and a sister, Mrs. Matilda Bentzel, of Dillsburg; also, by two grandchildren. Funeral Tuesday, July 9, services at his late home, at 7:30 a.m., Rev. M. J. Roth, of Trinity Reformed church, officiating. Interment in Mt. Olivet cemetery. The Hanover Herald – Saturday, July 13, 1912
