George W. Scheffer, Treasurer of York county, died suddenly at his home in York 
about 1 o’clock on Friday morning.  His death was entirely unexpected and was 
caused from heart trouble, from which he has suffered for many years.  He was a 
native of East York, born March 4, 1843, and was a prominent Democrat in his 
section.  He entered upon the duties of his office in January, 1897, and had 
approximately fourteen months to serve.  He is survived by a wife, nee Miss Anna 
Wallick.  The funeral services were held yesterday morning, followed by 
interment in Prospect Hill cemetery, York.

Pending the appointment of his successor by the County Commissioners, the 
Security, Title and Trust Company, which bonded for Mr. Scheffer, will exercise 
the functions of the office, Deputy Treasurer W. J. Bush acting in connection.
