She was stricken with paralysis August 7th last, from the effects of which she never recovered. This most estimable lady has been long and widely known and beloved in this community in which she was born March 1, 1820, where her life was spent, and where she died, mourned by a large circle of relatives and friends. In 1838 she was married to Ezekiel R. HERBERT, to whom she bore eight children, only four of whom - Mrs. Lizzie WRIGHT, Mrs. Deborah KISSINGER, Mrs. Sarah E. McDERMOTT and Mrs. ------WISE - are now living. Mr. HERBERT died July 1869, and in 1873 she was united in marriage to Robert SCOTT. She was again left a widow July, 1876. She leaves nine grandchildren. Of Mrs. SCOTT it can be truly said, "None knew her but to love her, None named her but to praise." In her life the Christian graces and virtues were pre eminent. A kind and obliging neighbor, a devoted wife, a loving mother, ever cheerful and helpful; those with whom her life came to contact were made better and happier by her presence. She will long live in the memory of those whose hearts and homes are desolated by her absence. During her weary weeks of suffering she was very gentle and patient, expressing perfect resignation to the will of God and perfect readiness to depart when the summons should come. The Thursday evening before she died, she expressed a desire to those present, that they sing her favorite hymn; "How tedious and tasteless these hours." and tried to join with them. She was interred in the Friends' burying ground, Fawn Grove. The funeral services were conducted by Friend Jeremiah Starr, and Revs. J.L. Elderdice and T.H. Wright. The pall bearers were John CHANNEL, Wm. R. JONES, Wm. CHANNELL, James WILSON, Rufus LOWE and Jnson BRADLEY. W. R. Webb was undertaker.
