Mr. Sheffer, who for several years made his home with his son, Grant Sheffer, of this place, was only at his daughter's a short time, in apparent good health for a man of his age, when a stroke of paralysis caused his death. Mr. Sheffer, who was one of the most highly esteemed and respected of those who resided here, on account of his estimable disposition and kindness, had almost reached the four-score mark, he being 77 years, 7 months and 29 days old. He was active in the G. A. R., being a member of James B. Rickett Post, and was a number of times marshall of the Memorial Day parade in Dillsburg. Five children, two daughters and three sons, survive. They are Mrs. Walter Lehmer and Mrs. George Hamilton, both of Harrisburg; Geary, of Steelton and Salmon and Grant, residing here. The body was brought to the home of his son, Grant, from which place the funeral was held Thursday morning at 9:30 o'clock, with services at the Barrens church, conducted by the Rev. G. H. Eveler. The pall-bearers were John, Earl, Stanley and Russel Sheffer, all grandsons, and S. N. Ensminger and J. H. Hess. The interment was in the Barrens Church Cemetery. S. H. Klugh was the funeral director. Dillsburg Weekly Bulletin, Dillsburg, York County, PA Friday, January 7, 1916
