Sheppard, an aged veteran of the Civil war and former shoemaker, died at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Billman, in Parkville, at 5:20 o’clock this morning after an illness of five months from a complication of diseases. He was aged 86 years, 1 month and 3 days. The deceased was a descendant of an old Pennsylvania Quaker family and was born in Philadelphia. Forty years ago he came to Hanover and for many years worked at the shoe repairing business with the late Charles Boobeck, of Broadway. He was a veteran of the Civil war and served for three years in Company H, 4th Regiment, Maryland Infantry. Mr. Shepard’s nearest relatives are two nieces, one residing in Philadelphia, and the other in Kansas City, Missouri. Funeral, Wednesday, March 29th, services at the house at 2 p.m., Rev. Wm. I. Redcay, of St. Paul’s Lutheran church, officiating. Interment on the Soldiers Lot in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. The Hanover Herald – Saturday, April 1, 1916
