Sprenkle Red Lion, Expires Auctioneer, Contractor And Lodgeman Dies In York Hospital After Short Illness Red Lion, April 17 - James E. Sprenkle, well known paint contractor and auctioneer, Franklin and Maple streets, died at 1:50 a.m. today in the York hospital from a complication of diseases after a short illness. Mr. Sprenkle was taken ill several days ago and was removed to the hospital Saturday morning. Death followed an operation. Mr. Sprenkle for many years while residing in Chanceford township was constable of the township. He was also a prominent lodgeman. He was a member of the P.O.S. of A. camp of Craley; I.O.O.F. lodge, this place, and the York lodge, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. Mr. Sprenkle was also a member of the Leo Fire company No. 1, this place. Surviving Mr. Sprenkle is his wife, Sadie, two sons, Walter, Felton, R.D. 2; Sterling, this place; one daughter, Leah, at home; his father, John F. Sprenkle, who lives at the Sprenkle home; one brother, Frank, Red Lion; three sisters, Mrs. Oscar Paules, Harrisburg; Mrs. Charles Disney, West Fairview; and Mrs. William Arnold, this place, and five grandchildren. The funeral will be held from his late home at 9:30 a.m., Wednesday. After short services at the house, the funeral procession will proceed to Shenberger's chapel, where concluding services will be held. Interment will be made in the cemetery adjoining the church. Rev. E.C. Basom, pastor of St. Paul's Evangelical church, this place, will officiate, assisted by Rev. Mr. Gray, pastor of the chapel. Funeral Director Furnace B. Olewiler, this place, is in charge of the funeral. Additional Comments: James Edward Sprenkle was the s/o John F. Sprenkle & Leah Heiss. His widow's maiden name was Sarah Jane("Sadie") Runkle.
