Stauffer, pastor of the First Lutheran church, Middleburg, PA., died at his home, 14-- West Market street, West York borough, Sunday morning at 1:30 o’clock. Death was due to a complication of diseases, after suffering for about a year. He was thirty three years old. The Rev. Mr. Stauffer took charge of the Middleburg congregation about a year ago, but discontinued his work about four weeks ago, when his condition grew worse. Previous to that time he had charge of the First Lutheran church of Chambersburg. He is a graduate of the Lutheran seminary at Gettysburg. The Rev. Mr. Stauffer was fraternally affiliated with the Knights of Malia and the Odd Fellows of Chambersburg. He leaves a widow and one son, Howard, Jr. He also leaves his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry K. Stauffer, of this city and several brothers and sisters. Public funeral services will be conducted in the Christ Lutheran church, Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock, by the Rev. G.W. Enders, assisted by the Rev. M.R. Hamsher, pastor of the St. Matthew’s Lutheran church, and the Rev. S.A. Diehl, of New Oxford. Private services will be held at his late residence Wednesday evening and the following morning the body will be sent to Gettysburg for interment. York Daily Record, April 12, 1915 The funeral services over the body of the Rev. Howard A. Stauffer, pastor of the First Lutheran church, Middleburg, Snyder county, were held yesterday afternoon at 2 o’clock in Christ Lutheran church, South George street, by the Rev. Dr. George W. Enders, pastor, assisted by the Rev. Samuel Diehl, of Hanover. The body had been laying in state in the church auditorium for 12 o’clock until after the services, when it was again taken to the residence of his parents, Mr. And Mrs. Henry K. Stauffer, 1469 West Market street. The pallbearers at the house were all brothers, as follows: The Revs. Charles L. Ritter, Peter Livingstone, Charles Aurand, Clinton B. Walter, George W. Enders, Jr., and H.N. Bower. Further services will be conducted this evening at 7:30 o’clock at the home of his parents by the Rev. Dr. Enders, assisted by the Rev. M.R. Hamsher, pastor of St. Matthew’s Lutheran church, West Market street, and by the Rev. Samuel Diehl, of Hanover. This morning the body will be taken to Gettysburg on the Western Maryland train leaving York at 8:30 o’clock, and immediately taken to the Union cemetery, in that borough, where short services will be conducted at the graveside by the Rev. Dr. Billheimer, instructor in the Lutheran theological seminary, Pennsylvania college, assisted by the Rev. W.L. Taylor, pastor of the First Presbyterian church, Gettysburg.
