Stokes of Lower Chanceford, York Co., PA., died November 26th, 1909, aged 69 yrs, 6 months and 27 days. He was a great sufferer from cancer which had been troubling him for some time; he bore his suffering with a good degree of patience and fortitude. His hope was in the Savior and the 51 psalm one of his favorite portions of scripture. He was a man of affairs, honest and upright, engaged in farming, dealer in lumber, coal, etc. and spent all his life in this neighborhood. He was first married to Miss Sarah A Wolf by whom he had the following children James W., Mrs Maggie Mayne, Mrs. Sarah E. Wilson, John Jos., Mrs. Ruth A. Skill, and Mrs Jennie A Chandlee. He was married the second time to Miss Mary R. Pomraning and their children are Samuel, Moorline, Mrs. Cora A Forward and Mrs. Catherine Drenning. All live in this neighborhood except John J. and Mrs Skill who live in Philadelphia. He has one brother living Joseph of Slab. Funeral services were held in Pine Grove Church on the 30th, where the interment was made, conducted by Rev. T. G. Baxter, A. E. Stuart and Samuel Ham. The pall bearers were Messers E. M. Kilgore, A. R. Kilgore, Alex Monroe, Joseph Richardson, Harvey Dunlap and Wesley Flaharty. Funeral Director N. W. Seitz. Publication unknown
