Swam, of East Middle street, received word of the death of his father, Caleb Swam, a former Hanoverian, who died at the home of his son, Caleb Swam, Jr., at Freeland, Md., Thursday, April 20, from infirmities, following an illness of one year. He was aged 82 years. The deceased was a son of the late Henry Swam, and was born near Hoffmanville, Baltimore county, Md., June 25, 1834. In early life he was married to Miss Saranda Stansbury, of Carroll county, who died 17 years ago. Mr. Swam was a paper-maker by trade and followed this vocation until his retirement a number of years ago. He spend about five years with his son, R. H. Swam, in Hanover, leaving this place a year ago for Freeland. He is survived by seven sons and one daughter: William O. and George Swam, of Edison, Ohio; R. H. Swam, of Hanover; Nelson E. Swam, of Hulleville, Illinois; Caleb Swam, of Freeland, Md.; John W. Swam, of Bentley Springs, Md.; C. W. Swam, of Brodbeck, and Miss Mary Swam, of Baltimore. There are also two sisters, Mrs. Sarah Dunday and Mrs. George Bollinger, of Hoffmanville, and three brothers, John Swam, of Baltimore; Jacob Swam and Henry Swam, of Hoffmanville surviving.
