Washer: Allis-Chalmers retiree William J. Washer, 81, York RD 10 died at 11:30 p.m. Wednesday at Barley Manor Care South. Mr. Washer was the husband of the late Marion Ruth Washer. He retired in 1966 after more than 30 years of employment with Allis-Chalmers Corp. Mr. Washer was a member of York Chapter 24, AARP. Mr. Washer was born in York on April 15, 1906, and was a son of the late William J. and Anna Snave Washer. Survivors include: Three daughters – Mrs. Marie Lehigh, East Berlin RD 1; Mrs. Evelyn Smith, York RD 28; and Mrs. Audrey Crone, 758 W. Philadelphia St. Seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Four sisters – Josephine Washer and Mrs. Catherine Hein, both of 126 W. Cottage Place; Mrs. Mary Brooks, 634 Roosevelt Ave., and Mrs. Esther Peeling, Springfield Apartments, 1930 Kenneth Road. Viewing will be 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the Baumeister & Orcutt Mortuary, South Queen and East Jackson Streets. Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the mortuary. The Rev. William A. Speers, pastor of Zion United Church of Christ, will officiate. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery.
