Weigard, aged 51 years, a director of the poor of York County, died at his home in Washington township, near Wellsville, about 11 o’clock Tuesday night, Aug. 31, from the effects of a stroke of apoplexy received at Williams Grove Tuesday morning. He was well known in the county as a farmer, a business man and a Democratic politician. His death leaves a vacancy in the board of directors of the poor which will have to be filled, as will the office of district attorney, at the November election. An appointment will be made by the court to fill the vacancy in the board temporarily. Mr. Weigard with his wife attended the Grangers’ picnic at William Grove Tuesday, and it was while the former was inside one of the tents erected by a farming implement agent, that his wife noticed that he appeared to be sick. He was assisted to the office of a physician at the grove, where it was found that the stroke had affected his left side. The afflicted man was hurried to his home in a team and Dr. A. C. Hetrick, the family physician, was called, but his death occurred shortly afterward. Surviving him are his widow and eight children: Walter, living near East Berlin; Lewis, of Baltimore; Robert, Earle and Norman, and Margaret, living at home; Mrs. Philip Yost, of near Barnes’ Church, and Mrs. Harry Bentz, living on a farm adjoining that of her father, and several brother and sisters. Funeral Saturday, Sept. 4, at 10 a.m. from the house, with interment at Barnes’ Church, Washington township. The Hanover Herald – Saturday, September 4, 1909
