OBITUARY
WILLIAM WILEY
The very many friends of William WILEY, Esq. late of Hopewell township, will 
be pained to learn of his death which took place at his residence on Saturday 
last, after a brief illness. Mr. WILEY was born in Harford county, Md. almost 
68 years ago, but had spent the greater part of his life in the neighborhood 
where he died, and where he was well and most favorably known.
     He early adopted the occupation of a farmer which he followed until some 
two or three years ago, when he retired from active life. Mr. WILEY was a warm 
hearted, generous man and a public spirited citizen. In politics, he was a 
lifelong, thorough going Democrat uncompromising and indefatigable. He was 
several times a candidate for county commissioner, before the Democratic 
county convention, and no doubt would have made a most faithful and efficient 
officer, but was never so fortunate as to secure the nomination. Mr. WILEY was 
a member of Centre Presbyterian Church, and was buried in the cemetery 
attached thereto on Monday last. A wife, two sons and two daughters survive 
him. - York Gazette
