John Chambers, a son of Joseph H. Chambers and wife, of Grangeville, and Miss Cora E. Shearer, daughter of J. D. Shearer and wife, of York Street extended, were married yesterday at Baltimore. The young couple left Hanover yesterday at 10:46, and went to the Monumental City, where the groom has been employed for some time. They told their friends here before they left that they would be married and return to Hanover this evening. A reception will be tendered the young couple this evening at the home of the bride?s parents. The Baltimore Sun chronicles the wedding as an elopement, which seems not to be correct. It says: - The couple arrived in Baltimore yesterday morning, secured a marriage license and were married. The bride wore a white lawn dress trimmed with lace. There were no attendants. After the ceremony Mr. and Mrs. Chambers registered at the Hotel Lexington. In the evening they went to the performance at the Holliday Street Theatre. They will return to Hanover to-day, but later will reside in Baltimore. Mr. Chambers said that he and his bride had known each other for five years and had been engaged for some time. He admitted, however, that the news of the wedding would be a great surprise to the families of both. Evening Herald, Hanover, PA, August 19, 1903
