Will of Frederick Bachman from the York County Archives, York, PA

     In The Name of God Amen. The Twenty fifth Day of January in the Year of our Lord One thousand 
Seven hundred and Eighty Nine, I Frederick Bachman of Germany Township in the County of York in the 
State of Pennsylvania Farmer being sickly and weak in body but yet of a sound and Disposing Mind Memory 
and under Standing Thanks be given unto God therefor calling unto Mind the Mortality of my body and 
knowing that it is appointed for all Men once to die, So make and ordain this my Last Will and 
Testament:

     That is to say principally and first of all I give and recommend my Soul into the Hands of God 
that Gave it, and for my Body I recommend it to the Earth to be buried in a Christianlike and decent 
manner, at the discretion of my Executors, and as touching Souch Worldly Estate where with it has 
pleased God to bless me in this Life, I give, devise and dispose of the Same in the following manner 
and form.

     Imprimis it is my Will and I do so order that in the first place all my Just debts and funeral 
Expenses Shall be paid and satisfied out of my Moveable Estate as soon after my decease as can be.

     Item I Give and bequeath unto my beloved Wife Evea Mary, beforehand of all, her bed and bed 
stead with all our bed furniture and Two Cows the Choice to her and also the sum of Twenty Pounds in 
Cash if I shall have so much by the time of my death,

     Item I give and bequeath unto my Eldest Son Frederick Bachman the Sum of Five Pounds in Hand 
Money, which he shall have for his birthright and no more, which said five pounds shall be paid to 
him within one years Time after my decease, and I also order and my will is that these what I have 
given to my said Eldest Son Frederick; that is to say, in Grain and Meat and several other 
Nessisaries and what he worked for in the time he did eat my Bread and also the Rent or the Use of 
that Plantation where he Lives Now till to the day of the date here of that he shall have for that 
what he Stood by me over his age and no more,

     Item My Will is and I Order That the One hundred Pounds which I have all ready paid and Given in 
Ready Money to my Eldest Daughter Anna Magdalen now the Wife of George Reinhard and the Housel Goods 
that she has all ready received me That Shall be her share in full out of all my Estate both Real and 
Personal and no more.

     Item My will is and I do order that the sum of One hundred Pounds in Real Specie Gold or Silver 
Money of Pennsylvania, Shall be given and paid out of my Moveable Estate, unto my Youngest Daughter 
Anna Barbara now the wife of Henry Zouck and that as soon as she comes to the age of Twenty one years, 
which One hundred Pounds and the Housel goods which she has all ready received from me, that shall be 
her share in full out of all my Estate, both Real and Personal, and no more,

     Item I give and Devise unto my said Eldest Son Frederick Bachman his Heirs and Assigns All that 
my Messuage(?) Plantation and Tract of Land which was Conveyed unto me from a certain Jacob Krock and 
Maria Elisabeth his Wife, by their Indenture from under their Hands and Seale bearing date the Third 
Day of November, which was in the Year of our Lord One thousand Seven hundred and Seventy Nine, Situate 
lying and being in Germany Township afore said adjoining Lands of George Weldt, Andrew Lore and others, 
Containing One hundred and Seven acres and three quarters of an acre and the usual allowance, Together 
with the Appurtenances and all Deeds, Evidences and Writings as fare as they are thereto belonging, To 
hold to him my said Eldest Son Frederick Bachman his Heirs and Assigns forever, Upon the Condition that 
he doth well and truly pay or sufficiently secure to be paid Given and Delivered unto my said beloved 
Wife Evea Mary yearly and every year of her Widowhood the following articles and things, that is to say, 
Three pounds in hand Money, six bushels of good clean Wheat, three bushels of Rye, three bushels of 
Intion corn and the same brought to my Dwelling Plantation where my Wife Liveth and that in the Good 
Trashing Time and also Eight pounds of clean Hatcheled Flax, Six pounds of Sow and Fifty Weight of 
Good Pork with the fat therein and Forty Weight of good Beef and Three pounds fo good Wool, and half a 
bushel of good Salt and a Ton of good Hay all these articles my said Son Frederick Bachman his Heirs 
or Assigns shall yearly give and deliver to my said Wife Evea Mary during her Widowhood, then thereupon 
my said Son Frederick Bachman his Heirs or Assigns shall hold the said Plantation,  which shall then be 
his Share in full out of all my Estate both Real and Personal and no more,

     Item I give and devise unto my Youngest Son, David Bachman, his Heirs and Assigns, all that my now 
Dwelling Plantation Lands and Tenements it being the same that was Conveyed to me from a certain Henry 
Wyfaar and Anna his Wife by their Indenture from under their Hands and Seals bearing date the Twelfth 
day of Aprill, which was in the year of our Lord One Thousand Seven hundred and Seventy three, Situate 
lying and being in Germany Township aforesaid adjoining Lands of Peter Coppersmith and Martin Letch and 
others and the aforesaid Land, Containing One hundred and Twenty Eight acres and the usual allowance, 
together with the Appurtenances and all Deeds, Evidences and Writings as fare as they are thereto 
belonging To Hold to him my Son David Bachman his Heirs and Assigns forever, Upon that Condition that he 
doth well and truly pay or sufficiently secure to be paid, given and delivered unto my said beloveth wife 
Evea Mary yearly and every year during her Widowhood the following articles and things, that is to say, a 
good close warm Stove Room, to live in by herself, firewood already cut and brought to her door as much 
as she shall have need for, and also six bushels of good clean Wheat, three bushels of Rie, three bushels 
of Intian corn and all her Grain brought to the Mill and the Grist home again whenever she has an occasion 
for it, three bushels of Potatoes and three bushels of Turneps if it gives any and the half of the 
Planting Garden yearly Tilled and Dunged in a sufficient manner, the fourth part of all the use and 
benefit out of the Orchard in a manner that is to say, from the Liquor when it is distilled and from the 
Syder when it is made, and from Dry Apple Slices when they are dryed, and then from all the other Apples 
and Peaches and Pears and Cherrys, and also Fifty Weight of good Pork with the fat therein and fourty 
Weight of good Beef and a half bushel of Salt and Two Cows kept in Stable in Hay and in Grass and in 
Pasture as good as his own wherefore one Tone of Hay is yearly to come from the other place aforesaid, 
and also Eight pounds of clean Hatcheled Flax and six pounds of Sow and Two Dozen of Eggs in every month 
only December, January and February being exception, three pounds of good Wool, and the sum of Three 
Pounds in hard Money, all these articles my said Son, David Bachman his Heirs and Assigns shall yearly 
give and deliver unto my said Wife Evea Mary during her Widowhood, and shall also let her have a Hors and 
Sadle to Ride whenever she has an occasion for it. Then there upon my said Son, David Bachman his Heirs 
and Assigns shall have to my said Plantation Two horses with the Geers with the Plows and Plow Frans and 
an ax and Dungfork and Dunghook which shall then be his Share in full out of my Estate both Real and 
Personal.

     And Lastly as to all the rest residue and remainder of my Personal Estate Goods and chattels of what
kind and nature soever, I give and bequeath the same to my beloved Wife Evea Mary Bachman whom I hereby 
appoint as Executerix and my said Son David Bachman to be Executor of my Last Will and Testament, hereby 
revoking all former Wills and Testaments by me made.

     In Witness whereof I have here unto Set my Hand and Seal the Day and Year first within Written Signed 
Sealed Pronounced and Declared by the said Frederick Bachman the Elder as his Last Will and Testament in 
the Presence of us, who have hereunto Subscribed our Names as Witness in the Presence and Request of the 
Testator.

     P.S. I also order that my said Wife shall have privilege in the celler and springhouse for her 
nessesaries on my said Dwelling Plantation which I gave and bequeathed to my said Son David Bachman, and 
if once my said Wife shall be sick or infirm to attend herself or to milk her own Cows, that then my said 
Son David shall do the same or cause to be done, these postscripts , I the said Frederick Bachman the 
Elder do declare to be my Will and part of the conditions whereupon my said Son David Bachman shall have my 
Dwelling Plantation as aforesaid, In Witness whereof I have here to set my Hand and Seal as aforesaid.

     York County, Before me Jacob Barnitz, Esq., Registar for the Probate of Wills and granting Letters of
Administration in and for the County of York in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, personally came John 
Kuhny and John Derr two of the Subscribing Witnesses to the foregoing instrument of Writing, and the said 
John Derr on his Solemn Oath, and the said John Kuhny on his Solemn Affirmation (he Conscientiously the 
taking of an oath) do saverally say that they were personally present and saw and heard the above named 
Frederick Bachman sign his name unto and seal and publish the foregoing instrument of writing as and for his 
Last Will and Testament, that  at the time of the doing, he the said Frederick Bachman was of a sound ?? ?? ?? 
and understanding to the best of their knowledge and belief and that they subscribed there name thereto 
as witnesses in the presence of the said Testator and at his request and further that they also saw Conrad 
Kopenheffer, the other witness sign his name thereto as a witness at the same time. Sworn and affirmed before 
me at York the Ninth Day of May 1789.
