I John Hinkle of the Township of Heidelberg, County of York and State of Pennsylvania being of advanced age, but of perfect mind, memory and understanding, thanks be given unto God for all mercies and goodness, calling into mind the mortallity of my Body do make and ordain this my Last Will and Testament in manner following I recommend my soul into the hand of Almighty God that gave it, and my Body I recommend to the Earth to be buried in decent christian burial etc. And as touching such worldly Estate wherewith it has pleased God to bless me in this life, I give, devise and dispose of the same in manner following: Im primis my will is that all my moveable property shall be appraised after my decease, and shall remain in the hands of the widow Magdalene Chambers six months if she remains the widow of my grandson John Chambers, and carries his name; but my apparels shall not be appraised nor set in the Inventory, because I give them to the widow for the use of her children. And after the said six months my moveable shall be sold by public sale and further my will is that the said widow Magdalene Chambers shall have & possess the house and Land whereon I now live, after my decease, for one year, if she remains a widow as above said, keeping the same in good repair; and after the expiration of said year my house and land shall be sold at public sale; and the money arising shall be disposed as follows I give and bequeath to my son William or to his heirs the sum of fifty pounds beforehand, but if it should happen that my son William should die, then my Executors shall pay his share to one of his children and the same that receives it shall divide and pay it page 372 to the children of my son William in equal shares, but all accts. I have against my son William shall be stroke off. I give and bequeath to my son Anthony or to his heirs the sum of seventy-five pounds before hand, and all accts. stroke off, but if he should die his share shall be paid to one of his children in the same manner as above said by my son William. I give and bequeath to the three children of my grandson John Chambers, namely to George, Jacob & Sarah six hundred dollars and one share in the Hanover and Maryland turnpike, but the said six hundred dollars shall remain on and upon my Land until the youngest boy Jacob, arrived to the age of twenty-one years, but the yearly interest of said sum the third part of it shall be paid yearly to the widow Magdalene Chambers as long she remains the widow of John Chambers. Item I give and bequeath to my grandson William Albright one hundred pounds and one share in the Hanover and Berlin Turnpike, also I give and bequeath to my two granddaughters Sarah & Margareth Albright each one seventy-five pounds, and each one, one share in the Hanover and Berlin turnpike, but if should happen that one or two should die of the issue, then his or their share shall be divided and paid to the survivor, and after the above Legacies are paid, my will is that the remainder of my real and personal Estate shall be divided amongst my four children into equal shares, viz. to my sons William and Anthony and to my two daughters Margareth and Elisabeth, but if my daughter Margareth should not be alive then the share which belongs to her shall be paid to one of her children and the page 373 receiver of it shall divide the same into equal shares and pay it to the living children born of my daughter Margareth, and in the same manner shall it be done with the share and children born of my daughter Elisabeth if she is not alive. And further my Executors shall settle with my son-in-law John Ditto, and wat’s to come to me yet shall be stroke off and be acquited. And Lastly my will is that my wife Rachel shall have six pounds annually, as long she remains my widow, if she come in person and receives it from my Executors. And I constitute, make and ordain John L. Hinkle and William Albright Executors of this my Last Will and Testament, and I do hereby utterly disallow and revoke all former Testaments, wills, Legacies and Executons, ratifying and confirming this and no others to be my Last will & Testament. And I do hereby impower my Executors and give them authority to sell my Lands as they think proper by the whole or Lots, and give the purchaser or purchasers titles or Deeds from their hands and the shall stand good in law. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this twenty-sixth day of April in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifteen. Before me Jacob Barnitz Register for the probate of wills and granting Letters of administration in and for the County of York in the State of Pennsylvania personally came Jacob Roth and George Eyler two of the subscribing witnesses to the foregoing Instrument of writing and on their solemn oath do severally say that they page 374 were personally present and saw and heard the above named John Hinkle Esq. sign his name unto and seal and publish the foregoing Instrument of writing as and for his Last Will and Testament and that at the time of the doing thereof he the said John Hinkle was of a sound and disposing mind, memory and understanding to the best of their knowledge and belief; and that they subscribed their names thereto as witnesses in the presence of the said Testator and at his request and farther that they also saw John L.
