The Last Will and Testament of John Kauffman of the 9th Ward of the Borough of York, Co. of York and State of Penna. I John Kauffman being of sound mind memory and discretion do make and publish this my last will & testament. 1st I commend my soul to God who gave it. 2nd I direct my executor hereinafter named to pay as soon after my death as possible all my just debts. 3rd I hereby empower my Executor to sell all my property real personal or mixed at either public or private sale as he may deem best and convey the same by as good and sufficient deed or deeds as I could were I living. 4th The proceeds of such sale or sales after paying all my just debts I give divide into eight equal shares as follows, to wit. Item. To my daughter Sarah Ann intermarried with W. H. Duhling I give devise and bequeath one equal share, less eighty dollars which I have reason to believe said Duhling collected for me from Daniel Kauffman and never paid the same over to me. Also less one hundred dollars for a horse I sold him which he never paid for. Item. To my daughter Mary Ann intermarried with Adam Hamme I give devise and bequeath one equal share. Item. To my daughter Rebecca intermarried with Milton Dietz, I give devise and bequeath one equal share less one hundred & sixty five dollars money which I have paid for him said Dietz. Item. To my daughter Susan intermarried with John Benedict I give devise and bequeath one equal share. Item. To my daughter Ida intermarried with Simon Myers I give devise and bequeath one equal share. Item. To my daughter B. E. Kauffman I give devise and bequeath one equal share. Item. To my son James H. Kauffman, I give devise and bequeath the interest of one equal share to be paid to him as the trustee hereinafter named deem best for his good and I hereby appoint my son-in-law Wim. Spangler, trustee of this said share. Lastly I nominate and appoint Adam Hamme, executor of this my last will and testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 28 day of May A.D. 1883." "Memorandum. John Kauffman, the said decedent, died on the 11th day of July A.D. 1883, at or about the hour of 1-40 o'clock. P.M. of said day, as per affidavit of death in Book No.3 (or 8) page 108, filed on the 14th day of July A.D. 1883."
