And to my daughter Elizabeth I leave the best of the beds all the clothing and to every furniture thereunto belonging to and the best case of drawers and to my son William I leave as a ………. thirty pounds to be paid out of my estate and the remainder of my estate after paying all my just debts of leave to be divided into four equal parts one part to my daughter Elizabeth one to my son William one part to my son John one part to my daughter Agnes but if my children can conveniently live together I allow them so to do but as soon as they can not I order my chattels and estate to be sold at public vendue and my land to be sold or let for some years as the circumstances of the time being will make such to be of most advantage for my children And I ……. and I ordain Joseph REID fery men land and my son William to be the executor of this my last will and testament and John LONG sickle maker and Andrew PAGAN to be overseer that this my last will be duly executed and I do hereby revoke and renounce all other wills and Testaments made by me or said to be made by me given and and or in my hand and seal this 17th day of October and the year of 1770 SIGNED: John MCDOWELL WITNESSES: Thomas WILSON William WILSON CODICIL I John MCDOWELL above testor for special consideration, to add this supplement to the above will that I order and bequeath to my daughter Elisabeth the sum of $70 out of the first outstanding debts that are collected, which can afford it, beside and working the other necessary demands. And this She is to have, and her equal division with my other children of what Estate remains according to the above will. In testimony whereof, I hereunto set my hand and seal this 21st day of February in the year of our Board 1779 SIGNED: John McDOWELL into presence of William WILSON Joseph READ York County Ss. Before me Archibald McLean Esq. register for the probate of wills in creating Letters of Administration in and for the county of York. In the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania personally came William WILSON, and Joseph READ, the two subscribing witnesses to the last foregoing instrument of writing said to be an addition or supplement to last Will and testament of John McDOWELL deceased. And of being duly sworn according to law to say, that they were personally present and saw and heard, the within named John McDOWELL Sign his Name and to the Seal and published the whole of the said Instrument of Writing has and for his Last Well and Testament and That at the Time of the doing thereof he the said John MCDOWELL was of sound and disposing mind memory and understanding to the best of their knowledge and belief, And that after they the said deponents, had particularly asked of the said John MCDOWELL whether he acknowledged the whole of the said Instrument of Writing as well as the first part as also reduced said addition and supplement to be his last Will taken collectively together, and he the said John McDOWELL answering particularly that it was, they the said deponents Did thereto Reflectively Subscribe their Names there to as Witnesses in the presence of the said testator and at his request And the said Joseph READ for the said, That the said John MCDOWELL, informed him That he the said John McDOWELL himself did with the first part of the said Instrument of writing and that he ordered the latter part to be added, because, the said part was not in all respects agreeable to him as he had been with some time past.
