I William McDOWELL Sr. considering the uncertainty of this mortal life and being of sound mind and memory (Blessed be almighty God for the same) do make and publish this my this will and testament and manner and form following (that is to say) FIRST I order and direct that all my personal property which I lent to my son Samuel McDOWELL according to an article of agreement made between asked him and myself (left in the hands of Isaac WILLIAMS) shall be sold and set of said property as is not now to be had or is in much reduced value is to be collected of the said the Samuel McDOWELL according to the value of it at the time he got it and whenever I am justly indebted to him is first to be paid out of the money arriving from said property. ITEM I will and bequeath to my son Samuel McDOWELL out of the above property to sum of 5 dollars. ITEM I give and bequeath out of the above property to my son William McDOWELL to sum of 5 dollars. ITEM I give and bequeath to my son James McDOWELL out of the above property the sum of 5 dollars and I give and bequeath all the balance of the above personal property after the above legacy is taken out to my daughter Margaret McDOWELL and I further order and direct that all my personal property of what ever kind to be sold and I further order and direct that so much of my Real estate should be sold has with the proceeds of my personal property will pay all my just debts and lastly has to all the rest residue the remainder of my real and personal estate goods and chattels of what kind so ever I give and bequeath the same to my beloved wife Ann McDOWELL into my son Wellington McDOWELL and to my daughter Sarah Ann McDOWELL to be equally divided between them share and share alike and I make and ordain Hugh LONG Executor of this my last will and Testament hereby revoking all former wills by me made. Wnd witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the fifth day of April in the year of our Lord 1831 SIGNED: William McDOWELL WITNESSES: James MURPHY Mary WILSON CODICIL Whereas William McDOWELL Sr. of Chanceford Township York County and state of Pennsylvania having made into the executed my last will and testament in writing bearing date the fifth day of April 1831 giving and bequeath to my son Wellington McDOWELL who is since deceased the one-third of my real and personal estate and I do now hereby declare them I will is that the same be held by or paid to my daughter Sarah Ann McDOWELL and lastly it is my Will and desire that this my Codicil be annexed to make part of my last Will and testament aforesaid to witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 13th day of June 1845 SIGNED: William (his X mark) MCDOWELL WITNESSES: James MURPHY Mary WILSON York County Ss. Before me William Schall deputy register for the probate wills and writing letters of administration in a foresaid County, personally came James MURPHY, who being duly sworn, To dispose and say that he was personally present and saw William MCDOWELL sign his name to the foregoing instrument of writing purporting to be his last Will and testament, and also saw him make his mark to the Codicil attach to the same, and that the time of doing the said testator was of sound and disposing mind memory and understanding to the best of his knowledge judgment observation and belief and that he witnessed the same at the request of the testator for and in his presence, and that he also saw Mary WILSON witness both the Will and Codicil. SIGNED: James MURPHY sworn and subscribed before me the 23rd day of July A.D. 1846 William Schall deputy MEMORANDUM Letters testamentary on the estate of William MCDOWELL deceased were granted to Hugh LONG Esq. the executor named therein, after being duly qualified according to law on the 10th day of August A.
