There is a deed recorded in the Coventry, Rhode Island records for a Thomas 
Whaley and is states that:  “Furthermore I the said Phineas Brand for me my 
Heirs, Executors and Administrators, do Covenant and Engage the above demified 
Premises to him the said Thomas Whaley his Heirs and Assignes against the 
lawful Claims or Demands of any Person or Persons whatsoever, forever to 
Warrant, Secure and Defend, by these Presnents, AP Amy Brand wife of the said 
Phineas Brand for the Consideration above mentioned do give yield up & 
Surrender to him the said Thomas Whaley all my Right of Dower and Power of 
Thirds of in and unto the above Demised & Bargained Premises and … and assigns 
forever … In witness whereof we have here unto set our hands and affixed our 
seals this Seven Day of June in the year of our Lord One Thousand Eight 
Hundred and Eight.
