January 12, 1848, d. July 11, 1940, in Bristol, Rhode Island. The Wardwell's were a prominent Bristol family with Mayflower ties. She never married and was 92 when she died, with hardly any relatives left except cousins. Scholarships mentioned in Isabella's will are named for family members. The Wheaton College in Norton, MA, scholarship was to be named in memory of Annie E Wardwell, Class of 1861. She also established scholarships at Brown and Pembroke. Money given to St. Elizabeth's Home, St. Mary's Home for Children and St. Andrew's School was to be named the Sophia L. Wardwell Income Gift, "in memory of my sister".
