Persons or organizations desiring to use this material for non-commercial purposes, must obtain the written consent of the contributor, or the legal representative of the submitter, and contact the listed USGenWeb archivist with proof of this consent. ------------------------------------------ The Record of ye deceased Gideon Crawford his last will & Testament: as followeth./ I Gideon Crawffurd of ye Towne of Providence in the Colloney of Rhode Island & Providence dence Plantations in New England being very sick & weake of Body but but (through Mercy) of sound & perfect memory, Doe make this my last Will & Testamt: Hereby makeing Null & voyd all & every former & other Will at any time by me made by word or writeing & this will only to stand in force/ Imprimis, I doe Comitt my Spiritt unto God who gave it & my body to ye Earth to be desently buried by my Executrix herein after Named./ 2ndly My Dwelling house in sd Providence Towne & my out housing there, as my Ware houses & Barne, & ye Lotts of land whereon the stand & unto them adjoyneing & also all my lands in ye place Called ye Neck, the one halfe of ye sd dwelling house & out houseing, & of said lands I doe Give & dispose unto my loveing wife ffreelove Crawffurd, to be for her vse, beneffitt, & improvement, for & duiring ye whole terme of her Naturall life, & at her decease, the said one halfe of the dwelling house & sd other houseing & sd halfe o[] the lands in ye neck shall be unto that my son who[] said wife shall desire & appoynt to dwell in sd house with her, to be unto him his Heirs & Assignes forever; the other halfe of my sd dwelling house & sd out housi[] & said lands both that adjoyneing to sd housing, & t[] other halfe in ye Neck to fall into ye hands & poss[]ion of that my son which my sd wife appoynts to dwell with her, when he shall attaine to ye age of Twenty & one yeares to be unto him his Heirs & Assignes forever, & in the meane while, my sd wife to have the Proffitts of all; And in Case that my sd wife shall make choyce of My son william Crawfurd to dwell with her & hee doth accep[] thereof, Then shall my sd son william Crawff[] Pay unto his Brother John Crawffurd one hundred Pound Pounds in money Current when his sd Brother shall attaine to the age of Twenty & one yeares; And as for all other my lands of what sort so ever lieing & being within ye aforesd Towneshipp of sd Providence or in any other Place or Places, my Will is, That they shall be Equally devided betweene my two sons, William Crawffurd & John Crawffurd to be unto them their heirs & Assignes forever; And also my Will is that all the lands adjoyneing to the sd houses Shall & that my lands in ye Neck, be accounted in ye sd devision with my other lands; & for so much as those lands about my sd houseing & in ye Neck shall be adjudged acre for acre better than out lands, then he that hath the house & those lands adjoyneing shall allow his brother the over pluss of the value in out lands: Item I doe Give & bequeath unto my Daughter Anne Crawffurd ffifty Pounds in Money Current, to be paid unto her at ye time when shee hath attained to ye age of Twenty & one yeares, or at ye day of her Marriage which shall first come: Item I doe Give & bequeath unto my Daughter Mary Crawffurd ffifty Pounds in Mony Current to be paid unto her at the time when shee hath attained to the age of Twenty & one yeares, or at ye day of her Marriage which shall first Come: Item, I doe Give and bequeath unto my loveing Wife ffreelove Crawfurd all My Moveable Estate of what sort so ever, all my Goods, moneys, Cattell & Chattells; that after all my debts & funerall Expences are all paid & discharged shall be unto her, & shee the same to despose of according as shee shall see Cause amongst & unto my Children, & unto the Care & Custody of my said Wife I doe Comitt for their Tuission & bringing up; And I doe make Ordaine & Appoynt my said loveing wife ffreelove Crawffurd to be my Executrix & also my loveing brothers in law Captn: Thomas ffenner, & Arthur ffenner, & my Cousin Richard Waterman junr: to be my Executors of this my last will & Testament, my sd Executrix with ye Assistance of my sd Executors, or by her owne Power as Executrix to Recover & Receive all debts to me from any person due, & to pay all debts from me due to any Person; And Whereas ffreelove Crawffurd wife of sd Gideon Crawffurd (now Widow) was made Executrix to ye sd Will, & Captn Thomas ffenner, & Arthur ffenner, & Richard Waterman (junr) all of sd Providence, together with her Made Executors to sd will; And bond haveing already been given in unto sd Towne Councill for ye true and legall Executeing & Performeing of ye same; Wee the now Towne Councill of sd Providence (to weet) Joseph Williams Assistnt, together with the Rest of ye sd Towne Councill Doe by these presents (so farr forth as ye law impowered us) Comitt unto you ffreelove Crawffurd Executrix, & Capt Thomas ffenner & Arthur ffenner & Richard Waterman (junior) Executors to ye sd last will, the full Power of Administration on ye Estate of ye sd deceased Gideon Crawffurd, the sd Will to Execute & truely to performe in all perticulars according to the law in such Cases doth direct, & from time to time to render an account of your proceeds therein when thereunto Required; By order & appoyntment of the Councill Dates ye sixth day of & on their behalfe Tho: Olney Towne December 1707; Clerk Recorded Tho: Olney Clerk TO All ChriStian People before Whome theSe preSents Shall or May CoMe I ffreelove Crawffurd of Providence in ye Collony of Rhode Island & Providence Plantations, Sendeth Greeteing KNoW yee, That Whereas My loveing husband Gideon CraWffurd, deceaSed, did in his laSt Will & TeStament give unto me the one halfe of his homeSteade, & alSo ye one halfe of his lands in ye Neck duiring the terMe of My Naturall life, & ye other halfe to that of his Sones that I Should appoynt & ChuSe to live in ye houSe With Me; Therefore I ye Sd ffreelove CraWffurd, Not on a Suddain or Meane MOtion, but upon Mature & good ConSideration, doe Make Choyce & have appoynted & ChoSen My Son WilliaM CraWffurd to live in the houSe With Me. And alSo I ye Sd ffreelove Crawffurd doe PromiSe to pay unto my Sd Son William CraWffurd the Sum of one HuNdred Pounds of Current Silver MoNey of NeW England on or before ye day that My Son John Crawffurd Shall CoMe to ye age of Twenty & one yeares; To ye Which payment Well & truely to be Made & done I bind mySelfe my Executors AdminiStrators & ASsignes in ye full SuM of TWo hundred Pounds of like Current Silver Money as aforeSd firMely by theSe preSents; In WitNeSs Whereof I have hereunto Set My hand & Seale this fourteenth day of JeneWary in the yeare one ThouSaND Seven hundred & Seven or Eight.
