Will of James Strannahan of Foster in the County of Providence in the State of Rhode Island and Providence plantation in New England Foster, Rhode Island, Vol. 1, pp. 82-84 In the Name of God Amen I James Strannahan of Foster in the County of Providence in the State of Rhode Island and Providence plantation in New England yeoman being in Common Good Health of body and of a Sound Disposing mind and Memory But being of an Advanced age and Confirming the mortality of my Body and the Shortness and uncertainty of Humane Life Do make this my Last will & Testament as followeth that is to Say Whenever it Shall please Almighty God to take me out of this world by Death Principally & above all I recommend my Spirit unto the Hands that Gave it and my Body to the Earth to be Buried in a Decent and Christian manner at the Discretion of my Executor hereinafter Mentioned and as touching Such Worldly Goods and outward Estate Wherewith it hath pleased God to Bless me with in this Life I Devise Give & Bequeath the Same in the following manner & form to wit my will is that all my Just Debts and funeral Charges be first paid out of my Personal Estate in Convenient time after my Decease by my Executor hereinafter Named 1: I Give & Devise to my Son James Strannahan and to his Heirs and assigns forever all my Lands in Sd Foster with all the Buildings thereon and also all my Land in Coventry in the County of Kent in the State above: also all my Moveable Estate 2: I Give and Devise to my second son John Strannahan one Hundred Dollars to be paid at the Expiration of one year after my Decease by my Executor hereinafter Named ---- 3: I Give and Devise unto my third son William Strannahan Five Hundred Dollars to be paid at the Expiration of one year after my Decease by my Executor hereinafter mentioned - - - - 4: I Give and bequeath unto my Four Daughters Alice Isabel Jane and Nancy one Cow Each and my Beds and Bedding and Pewter to be Equally Divided amongst My said Four Daughters by my Executor hereinafter Named Share and Share alike - - - - - Lastly I hereby Nominate make Constitute and appoint my said son James Strannahan Sole Executor of this my Last will and Testament hereby Revoking all former Wills and Wills by me heretofore made In Witness Whereof I the said James Strannahan the Testator have hereunto set my hand and seal the Eighth Day of December in the year of our Lord one Thousand Seven Hundred and Eighty Three 1783 - - - - - - - Signed Sealed Published & Declared by him the Sd James Strannahan above his Named Testator as & for his Last Will and James @ Strannahan L. Testament in the presence of us who have mark hereunto Subscribed our Names as Witnesses thereto in the Presence of the sd Testator & in the presence of Each other --- Job Potter her Sarah X Frick mark Alexander Miller Junr At a Town Council held at Foster in the County of Providence on the 13th Day of February AD 1792 the foregoing Will was presented and Read and Job Potter and Alexander Miller Junr two of the Witnesses thereto appearing in Council Desered on Solemn Engagement that they saw the Testator Sign Seal and Declare the same to be his Last will and testament and that he was then of sound Disposing mind and Memory and that they & Each of them did subscribe their Names as Witnesses Thereto in his presence and in presence of Each other and James Strannahan the person Named Executor to said Will appearing accepted said appointment Whereupon said Will was accepted allowed and approved as a Good & Lawfull Will and was ordered to be Recorded Attest John Westcot Con Clk These and Therefore in the Name of the Govr & Con of the State of Rhode Island & to Authorize order and fully Impower you the said James Strannahan to [ ] unto your Possession Care and Custody all & singular the Goods Chattels Rights and Credits of the said James Strannahan Deceased and the same to administer according to Law and the will of your Testator and in all things to act and Do as the Law Directeth and Impowereth an Executor Relating the [ ] and true and perfect to Render to this Town Council or to their [ ] in said office when you shall be there to Lawfully Called how you have administered said Estate with other your Doings thereon and for your so Doing these shall be your sufficient authority Given at a Town Council held at Foster in the County of Providence on the 13th day of February AD 1792 L.
