Father's name: Isaac Prosser Mother's name: Phebe Prosser Place of Disposition (Name of Cemetery, Crematory, or Other Place): Westerly, RI Cause of Death::Puerperal Fever Additional Comments: Nellie M. Prosser was born on January 16, 1874, in Charlestown, Washington, Rhode Island and died October 20, 1896, in Westerly, Washington, Rhode Island. Nellie's father was Isaac Stillman Prosser (17 Nov 1830 - 1 Nov 1895), and her mother was Phebe Watrous (2 Feb 1842 - 12 Sep 1910). Nellie marrie Joel Watrous (9 Aug 1861 - 15 Feb 1900), on 16 Sep 1893. Nellie gave birth to their daughter Florence Ruth Watrous (14 Oct 1896 - 25 Jan 1952), in Westerly, Rhode Island and then perished six days later from Puerperal fever (from the Latin puer, child), also called childbed fever. Nellie contracted Puerperal sepsis, a serious form of septicaemia shortly after childbirth, and it proved fatal. Puerperal fever is now rare in the nations with modern medical practices due to improved hygiene during delivery. and deaths have been reduced by antibiotics.
