William Ware and Cols. Carter & Youngblood S.C. Militia, War of 1812; Moses Ashley served from December 10th 1813 to March 15th 1814. December 4, 1850 Application for Bounty Land State of South Carolina, Abbeville District On this 4th day of December, one thousand eight hundred and fifty, personally appeared before Bennett McAdams a Magristrate duly authorized to administer oaths in and for the district and state aforesaid, Moses Ashley, aged 78 years, a resident of the District and State aforesaid, who being duly sworn according to law, declares that he is the identical Moses Ashley who was a private in the company comamnded by Capt. William Ware in a Regiment of South Carolina Militia, commanded by Col. Carter and afterward by Col. Youngblood, in the war declared by the United States against Great Brittain on the 18th day of June 1812; that he was drafted in Abbeville on or about the tenth day of December 1813 to service three months; that he continued in active service in said war for three months and was honorably discharged at Camp Alston on or about the fifteenth day of March 1814, by reason of indisposition as will appear by reference to the muster rolls of said company and certificate of discharge herewith presented. He makes this declaration for the purpose of obtaining the bounty land to which he may be entitled under act of Congress granting bounty land to certain officers and soldiers, dated 28th Sept. 1850. Signed, Moses Ashley, Senr. **** March 22, 1855 Application for Bounty Land State of South Carolina, District of Abbeville On this 22nd day of March 1855, personally appeared, Moses Ashley, who being first duly sworn, declares that he is the identical Moses Ashley who was a private in the company commanded by Captain Ware in the Regiment commanded by Colonel Youngblood in the War of 1812. That he received from the Department of the Interior of the United States a Bounty Land Warrant for forty acres for his said services, under the act of Congress approved 28th September 1850; that he does not remember the number of said warrant, having sold and parted with the same. That he makes this declaration to obtain the benefit of the act of Congress approved March 3rd 1855, granting additional lands to the Soldiers of the Indian Wars and the War of 1812. That he appointed B.V. Posey of Abbeville, S.C. his attorney to demand and receive the warrant to which he is entitled. For proof of the above facts, he refers to the proof exhibited in his application under the Act of 28th September 1850, which is on file at the Department of the Interior. Signed, Moses Ashley, Senr. Witness: J.S. Barnes --- Additional Comments: Moses Ashley left a Will dated Oct 7, 1850. The Will was filed at the Abbeville Co., SC courthouse on Sept 28, 1857. Executor of the Will was his son Moses L. Ashley. Wife: Sarah Moseley. Children: Moses, Margaret, William, James, Mary, Robison, Richard Ashley. Witnesses: Wm. Pratt, J.W. Brooks, J.M. Brooks. Mentions that Moses Ashley lived in Abbeville Dist. Expend: On March 25, 1858 Margaret Smith received her share of the estate.
