Http://scdah.sc.gov/ Written: March 28, 1837 Recorded: February 7, 1838 “Last Will & Testament [of] Hiram TILMAN dec,d The State of South Carolina Abbeville District In the Name of God Amen I Hiram Tilman knowing that it is appointed for us all to die and being desirous of Settling my my worldly concerns do make ordain and constitute this my last Will and Testament in form following First It is my will that all my Just debts be paid as soon as my Executors can make arangements to do so 2nd I will and bequeath unto Hiram Tilman Jr., son of Edward Tilman one Negro man Named Bill to him and his heirs for ever 3rd I will and bequeath unto Iwanowna Tillman one Negro Girl Louisa to her and her heirs for ever 4[th] I will and bequeath unto Edward Tilman Jr son of Edward Tilman one Negro boy named Squire 5th I will and bequeath unto Kitty Tilman daughter of Edward Tilman one Negro Girl Caroline to her and her heirs for ever 6th I will and bequeath unto my loving wife Nancy Tilman all the residue of my property both personal and real except two tracts of Land one known by the Name of the woods tract of land the other by the name of McLin tract of land which she is only to have a lifetime estate in the tract of land known by the name of the home tract with the following Negroes (Viz Lewis and his wife Mary and family. Teler Margaret Turner Dick Elbert and Charlotte Jane and her / child Elijah Hetty & her two / children Jim and Scott Anthony and William together with all the Stock of every description household and kitchen furniture Carriage Waggon & provisions of every description I will and bequeath unto my loving wife Nancy Tilman in fee simple for her use for her to dispose of as she may think proper 7th It is my Will that the two tracts of land that my wife has…” [End of Page One] [Start of Page Two] “…a lifetime Estate in at her death shall be sold and equally divided between my Brother Edwards Brother Daniels Sister Lucy and sis Pollys children share and share alike 8th It is my will and desire and I do herby constitute and appoint my loving wife Nancy Tilman Edward Tilman & William F. Additional Comments: Hiram TILMAN [variant spelling: TILMAN, TILLMAN] died after March 27, 1837 and before February 7, 1838, also known as Hiram Oscar TILMAN or Oscar Hiram TILMAN married circa 1810 Nancy BAKER, born 1789 Edgefield District, South Carolina; she died 1845 DeSoto County, Mississippi. His widow, Nancy BAKER TILMAN qualified as Executrix 7 Feb 1838. Nancy BAKER 1789-1845 was a daughter of James Edward BAKER, born circa 1755, Charlotte County, Virginia, and of his wife, Elizabeth FUQUA, born 1762, Charlotte County, Virginia; they migrated to Edgefield District, South Carolina circa 1785-1790. Widow Nancy BAKER TILMAN married second Captain James M. TAIT; she enumerates her second husband in her will of 1845 probated in both Abbeville County, South Carolina, and in DeSoto County, Mississippi.
