On Thursday last Josh Goodwin, the colored boot-black at McCormick's barber- shop, was seriously shot with a parlor pistol in the hands of another colored boy. The bullet imbedded itself in the frontal bone and had to be removed by a physician. The pistol works with a spring, but nevertheless discharges a missile with great force, sufficient under favorable circumstances to inflict death. All such implements should be promptly confiscated when used in the streets, and the offenders severely punished, as they furnish the means of inflicting serious damage, while the risk of detection is slight, from the fact that they make no noise.
