C., July 10 – The Edward Croft Chapter, United Daughters of the Confederacy held its regular meeting this afternoon at the home of Mrs. H. A. Clark. The program was in charge of Mrs. Luther Fanning and Mrs. A. R. Williams who acted as assistant hostesses to the society. After the business routine the guest were entertained with a social hour. Albert George is a patient at the Aiken County hospital where he underwent an appendix operation Saturday. His condition is reported as satisfactory. Miss Mary Steifel has returned to her home in Trenton, S. C., after a visit with Miss Caroline Woodward. Dr. O. W. Topp, Hastings, Neb., and Dr. Harry E. Dawson, Augusta, Ga., have arrived at the Aiken County hospital to serve their internship. Mr. and Mrs. William Lacey and Benjamin J. King are departing Saturday for New York and the World’s Fair. Mr. and Mrs. John T. Potter have returned to Aiken after a visit to the Florida beaches. Mrs. Holbrook Wyman and young son, Holbrook, Jr., are occupying their cottage at Cedar Mountain, N. C., for the summer. The Revered George Lewis Smith, of St Mary’s Catholic church, is passing his vacation with relatives in New Jersey. Mrs. John Gregg Chafee and Miss Clara Harrigal are going to Edgefield on Friday to attend the Edgefield Centennial celebration. Charles Hadley Cooper, of Columbus, Ga., is arriving for a visit with Miss Harrigal and will accompany them. Mrs. Charles Olmstead Adams and son, George Martin Thorpe, have gone to Savannah, Ga., for a visit with Mr. Adams. Before returning they will visit relatives at Bluffton, S. C. Miss Claudia Lea Phelps, of Aiken and Teaneck, N. J., and Mrs. Osmer Hutson have been appointed members of the South Carolina woman’s committee of the New York World’s Fair for “South Carolina Day” on Wednesday, July 18. Miss Phelps who is passing the summer in New Jersey will join the South Carolina delegation at the World’s Fair. Miss Mamie Bush has returned from a visit to Ellenton, S. C., where she attended the Stewart Cassel’s wedding on Friday evening. Dr. and Mrs. W. W. Molony and Billy Molony have returned from a visit to Savannah, Ga. Mrs. B. R. Permenter is receiving treatment at the Aiken County hospital. Dr. Philip J. McLean returned to the city Saturday after a visit with his son, Dr. P. J. McLean, Jr., and Mrs. McLean, at Abbeville. Mrs. Robert W. Holliday and Miss Kathryn Holliday have returned from visits to Monrow and Washington, Ga. The Reverend Leland Edmunds had been the guest of his mother at Sumter. E. L. Asbill, of Leesville, S. C., has arrived in Aiken to make his home. G. L. Bigford, Jerome Courtney, J. M. Johnson, J. H. McElmurray, S. B. Williams, Joe West and W. L. Plunkett have departed for Blowing Rock, N. C., where they are attending the meeting of the Credit Productive Association.
