Ballew, who lives five miles from Union C.H., was brutally murdered by two negro men, tenants on his place, who is alleged were burning his fence rails. He visited their house and found them burning them, and remonstrated with them when one of the negros seized him and held him until the other cut him in a most horrible manner, one gash across the heart being 5 inches in length, causing him immediate death. The negroes were arrested, and after capture, an attempt to lynch them was frustrated by the action of the sheriff. The details as told us, make this murder one of horrible and cold-blooded atrocity.
