Curtis was shot and killed in the Catawba Hotel in Lancaster, last Sunday Evening, by Charles Emmanuel, of Bennettsville. The shooting was the result of a dispute concerning the loss of twenty or twenty-five dollars by Emmanuel, when the two men were in Winnsboro together recently, and Emanuel accused Curtis if having taken the money from his pocket. Curtis was employed in the ice factory in this city about three years ago, and afterwards kept a Market street bar-room, in which business he made a bad reputation. He was subsequently employed in the ice factory at Charlotte, N.C., where it is said he killed a man, but escaped punishment.
