On Tuesday last between the house of twelve and one o'clock in the day, a most heartrendering accident befell little Ollie, the five year old son of Mr. O.C. Jordan, which resulted after much suffering in death. It appears that in an out- house on the premises of Mr. Jordan were stored in a barrel, some hundred or more paper shells of a highly explosive character, the relicts of a shooting match, which had taken place many months ago. Little Ollie while engaged in playing with some companions, dropped his rubber ball into the barrel upon which he jumped in to recover his property, when the entire contents of the barrel exploded, tearing up the soles of his feet, frightfully lacerating his legs and burning his face. Notwithstanding the severe nature of his wounds, he made his way to the dwelling unassisted and in a perfect state of consciousness. Dr. T.G. Croft the family physician was sent for, and Drs. Geddings and B.F. Wyman were called in and every effort made to save the little sufferer, but he died at 10 o'clock that night, it is supposed from the shock and internal injuries, as the external injuries were not considered sufficient to have produced death. This very sad accident has enlisted the sympathies of the entire community in behalf of the afflicted parents. The little boy was an uncommonly bright and interesting child, and his frank manner and winsome ways won the love of al who came in contact with him. The funeral services were performed at 6 o'clock on Wednesday afternoon, before a very large congregation of sympathizing friends, by the Rev. Lucius Cuthbert, at the Aiken Baptist Church. The heart of our entire community goes out to the bereaved parents in this dark hour of a most destressing calamity.
