Murder at Montmorenci. - On last Saturday night Odum Kennedy, Lewis Moore, and Jim 
Slater, all colored, who were at a frolic, got into a dispute in regard to some 
old difficulty, which resulted in the exchange of blows. During the melee, Slater 
drew a pistol and shot Kennedy in the back killing him instantly. Slater made his 
escape, but Moore was captured and --- in jail. On Monday, the Sheriff received a 
dispatch from Langley, stating that a man answering Slater's appearance had been 
arrested there. A deputy was sent to Langley, but failing to identify , Slater is 
at large.
