Latitude N 34 30.880 x Longitude W 82 47.155 CHURCH/CEMETERY HISTORY: ------------------------ In the Carolina Room, you will find bits and pieces of information collected by me, in my travels in different Counties in South Carolina. Visit http://members.aol.com/pastense2/scroom.htm In the Carolina Room, I have stored many documents that pertain to the State of South Carolina, however, I do have some records that I have acquired from other States, as well. Here you will find a little bit of my Family History, South Carolina Misc. Records extracted, from (wills, deeds, marriage records, deaths records, probate records) Penitentiary Records, Coroner Inquisitions, Church Cemetery transcriptions where to get copies of these books, pictures, census information, surname connections, Mortality records, Slave records and Mortgage Records. Many of the items in my possession, were copied from the original document and later compiled and placed in one of my many databases, for future reference. Keep in mind, that a lot of hard work has been placed in the years of research that I have done. Most of what you will find here I freely share, with the understanding that it is copyrighted material, published either by me or someone else, that I have acknowledged. The following history information was taken from the Inventory of Church Archives of Churches 1935. By: E.E. Vaughn Deep Creek Methodist Episcopal 9 mi W. Anderson on SC Highway # 18 Organized about 1879 1st log 1884 slab benches, 2nd 1897 wooden frame about 20 yards west of present building. Building was dedicated in 1906, built 1904. Wooden frame, belfry, no bell, square plain windows & doors. No SS rooms, no Parsonage. Building sits on very high knoll. No cemetery. Capacity about 200, value $2000. First settled clergy, Rev. S. A. King. These colored people worshipped as a SS for five years from house to house previous to their 1st church building. They formerly had a parsonage but gave it to a school building. The school building is a across the road from the church. The present membership 65. Aaron Carter has been Supt. of SS for 38 years. He was a charter member of the church. TOMBSTONE TRANSCRIPTION NOTES: ------------------------------ a. = age at death b. = date-of-birth d. = date-of-death h. = husband m. = married p. = parents w. = wife This church is abandoned. There are many graves here that are unmarked even by fieldstones. A number of graves have only metal funeral home markers, many of which have long since lost their paper inserts. Most of the metal markers seem to have come from the Johnson Funeral Home and the Jackson Funeral Home. The ground on which the cemetery lies is sloped, which has led to erosion. Due to this, it was necessary to dig around some of the stones to read their inscriptions. There are also quite a few handmade/hand-etched stones in this cemetery that will probably become unreadable in the very near future. The cemetery could use a little TLC, as it is littered and covered with leaves and fire ant mounds. Anyone visiting here in warmer months should be very cautious of these ant hills. A good clean up might reveal more markers. AUSTIN, Bertha, b. 4/13/1899, d. 8/27/1907 AUSTIN, Capers, b. 1/28/1858, d. 9/19/1891, single stone AUSTIN, J.
