Elrod born 4 APR 1829 and died 2 JUL 1862 buried in the Elrod Family Cemetery off Elrod Road and Oak Road in Powdersville, Anderson County, SC. Isaac was the son of Adam Soelle Elrod and Sarah Owen Moore. He also has a son buried in the Elrod Cemetery: Clifton A. Elrod born Dec. 1, 1860 and died March 8, 1862. The infants buried there are children of Isaac's brother, John Andrew Jackson Elrod and Mary Ann Elrod. By: A. Deason Smith o----------o Adam and his wife, Sarah were both large and their descendants are known as "The Big Elrods." They had 15 children - 8 boys and 7 girls. Seven of Adam's eight sons fought in the Civil War and five died during the War. Only one, Isaac M., was brought back from the war to the Powdersville Area for burial. 1850 Census, Anderson County, SC, Eastern Division, household 771, Image 272 Adam Elrod, farmer, 51, SC (Adam Soelle Elrod born Dec. 1, 1798 died July 4, 1859) Sarah, 46, SC (Sarah Owen Moore born Aug. 17, 1804 died Aug. 11, 1871) John S., 24, SC Isaac M., 21, SC (Elrod Cemetery) Elijah W., 20, SC Mary A., 19, SC Sarah C., 17, SC Elizabeth, 16, SC George W., 13, SC Leevina H., 12, SC Mariah, 11, SC Samuel F., 9, SC Martha C., 7, SC Jasper C., 6, SC James A. J., 4, SC (Two infants buried at Elrod Cemetery are his children.) This Elrod family can be traced back to John Dietrich Ellroth (John Teter Elrod was born ca. 1684. Sources disagree on whether he was from Hessen, Germany, or from Switzerland. "Johan Dider Elroot", wife and one child, also "Johan Willem Lergerseiler", wife and one child, all sailed from Rotterdam 15 July 1709. Wilhelm Lerchenzeiler was the father, or possibly the brother, of John Teter's wife Maria Magdalena Lerchenzeiler. Both families settled initially in New Castle Co., Delaware, where they are listed as communicants in Holy Trinity Church.) The Isaac M. Elrod in the cemetery married Mary Jane Gambrell. After his death she married John William Cooper, brother of my direct ancestor, Eliza Jane Cooper. John William and Mary Jane moved to Texas and died there. Interestingly, the Cooper line is my father's line and the Elrod line is my mother's. By: A.
