Brockman McKelly Jenkins. She recopied it on September twentieth in the year of our Lord nineteen hundred sixty. Mrs. Mary J. Brockman McKelIy Jenkins Johnson gave assistance in the updating of this history. The original writer of this history states that the church was started around 1902-1909. New Prospect Baptist Church had its origin or beginning from prayer meeting held in an old log. cabin. They increased so rapidly that we decided to move out of the log cabin to a larger place. Cringe Hall was chosen as a place for worship. Rev. William (Bill) Parker was elected pastor. Afterward the people came together and built a church. Therefore, Rev. William Parker was the first pastor of New Prospect Baptist Church. The Deacon Board was composed of brethren Warren Beaty, James (Jim) Alexander and F. C. McKelIy. Following Rev. Parker as pastor was Rev. William Andersen of the Mt. Spring Section of Anderson, County. During Rev. Andersen's pastorate Bro. Eddie Webb and Bro. Hiram Jenkins became members of the Deacon Board. Rev. Anderson served as pastor for sometime. He passed during his pastorate in 1912. His son, the Rev J.H.Z. Anderson finished the unexpired term. This was in July or August of 1912. At the expiration of the pastoral year, he was elected pastor. He served for three years. Rev. Green Griffieth of Toccoa, Georgia became our next pastor. The following persons were-added to the Deacon Board; (if my memory serves me right) Brethren William Majors, Henry Dennis and others. Rev. A.B. Morton of Westminster, S.C. was our next pastor. He served for about 16 years. During his pastorate the following persons were ordained as deacons; Brethren Frank Curry, Elliott Rice and Isaiah McGee. Our next pastor was the Rev. T.B. Williams of Anderson, S.C. The following persons were added to the Deacon Board during his pastorate; Roscoe Johnson, Artis Wiley, Louis Jenkins, Leander Jenkins and Charles Robinson. Rev. S.M. Glover of Anderson, S.C. became our next pastor. Rev. Glover served for 14 years many members were added to the church during his pastorate. Rev. O.S. Scott of Belton, S.C. served as our next pastor. At the time of the recopying of this history. Rev. Scott had been with us for two years. Following Rev. Scott as pastor were the Rev. Sanders, Rev. Ward, Rev. Donaldson and Rev. Howard. All of these ministers rendered great service for the Lord while with us. Some of the accomplishments during Rev. Howard's pastorate include: The new addition to our church, new steps, the Young Matrons and the church purchased a piano. These, of course, are some of the physical accomplishments. Our membership was increased during his pastorate. New Prospect Baptist Church has contributed to the work of mission both at home and in other areas over the past years. During the time of all of the former pastors quite a number of members have been added to the church. Many of them have moved away and still others have gone the way from which no travelers have ever returned. Our present pastor is Rev. Marvin Cunningham he was called recently to serve as pastor of this church. May the Lord use him in a great manner.
