Gunnin at rgunnin@bellsouth.net. 20-Aug-2004 o---------o Conveyance ELIJAH MCPHERSON to HUGH GREGG page 565 South Carolina Anderson District Know all men by these present that I ELIJAH MCPHERSON for & in consideration of the seven hundred and fifty dollars to me paid by HUGH GREGG have granted bargained sold and conveyed to the said HUGH GREGG all that parcel or tract of land whereon ELIZABETH MCPHERSON dec'd containing two hundred acres be the lands more or less excepting the FAMILY BURYING PLACE WHICH IS ENCLOSED IN STONE bounding on land of SAMUEL H. BAKER on the North South & West by LINDSY BAKER East by ADAM STEWART of which premises I warrant and forever defend and to the said HUGH GREGG Sr. his heirs executors administrators & assign forever and against myself my heirs Executors and administrators & assigns forever in Witness Whereof I have herein to set my hand seal this fourth day of November 1848. signed sealed and delivered in the presence of JAMES GUNNIN signed ELIJAH MCPHERSON (JP) GEORGE STEWART Submitted by: Mary McPherson at mimlam@nu-z.net in Oct-2004 o---------o Ref: History of Anderson County, page 176, in the old MCPHERSON graveyard are some time-stained graves, those having stones bear the names, ELIZABETH MCPHERSON, wife of WILLIAM MCPHERSON, daughter of JOHN and SARAH GILLILAN, born 12 April 1766, died 30 May 1848; WILLIAM MCPHERSON, son of WILLIAM and PHOEBE MCPHERSON, born 4 Oct 1758 died 8 Aug 1832: MARY GUNNIN daughter of WILLIAM and ELIZABETH MCPHERSON, born 8 November 1792, died 30 September 1839: CYRUS GUNNIN, son of JAMES and MARY GUNNIN, born 10 July 1822, died 28 January 1845. Besides the graves that are marked, there are others, having only boulders, and any rude inscription that might once have been scratched on the stone has long since disappeared. (Note: LARRY and MARY TURPIN MCPHERSON visited this grave site in October 2003, discovering that Elizabeth's stone was broken, Lying in the dirt, unearthed it and read the history to be true: also not mentioned in the history, was a stone with the letters MCGEE clearly etched in a field stone. Also believed under one of the unmarked stones are ELISHA and DORCAS? MCPHERSON, as ELISHA Died just after WILLIAM, and DORCAS lived with ELIZABETH GILLILAN MCPHERSON after ELISHA's death.) Also, there is still a stone wall around the gravesite as mentioned in Elijah's conveyance, stating it was excepted from the last parcel of land of ELIZABETH MCPHERSON's land sale. It is located on TERRY WYATT's farm, 1.1 mile past the Iva/Starr Middle School, address is 1851Rainey Road, Starr SC. It is directly to the left and 1/2 mile back of the house in a grove of trees, fenced with a stone enclosure, as the conveyance of ELIJAH MCPHERSON excluded it from sale on the last piece of the farm to sell. Apparently he sold it after ELIZABETH GILLILAN MCPHERSON passed into glory. However, the cemetery still remains property of the MCPHERSON's, it was excluded in all future sales.
