The following history information was taken from the Inventory of Church Archives of Churches 1935. By: E.E. Vaughn Thompson Centineal Methodist 201 W. Market Street Organized 1868 1st 1870 - 1911, wooden frame (remodeled in 1883, 1897). Built 1911, dedicated 1911, and 6 Sunday School rooms were added in 1923. Brick structure, English Gothic style, vestibule entrance, bell and belfry. Value of church building $22,500, value of parsonage $2250, total value of church property $22,500.00. First settled clergy Rev. James Roseman, tenure 1868 - 1875. Charter members unknown, present membership 266. Published histories or historical sketches: Historical sketch in "Program and Directory." Cora Lee Caldwell a Brief History of Thompson Centeniel ME Church, Anderson, SC. Greenwood, SC, 1938. The members of this organization began meeting under a large oak tree about 1 block west of present site. It was named after a Mrs. "Belle" Thompson who gave them a part of their common set.
