If you descend from any of the men on this list, or can tell anything about them, why not post a reply telling your line from them and give some biographical information. This could become a very interesting project. You might tell how the war affected them or their families as far as physical injuries, death, or financial loss. For example, #18 on the list is Charles G. Webb. That's Charles Guyton Webb, son of William Webb and Betsy Guyton Webb of Anderson County, South Carolina. He was killed in Virginia during the war, leaving a young wife and small children. His brother, Edward W., called "Doc" was in the service with him and buried him at a little church cemetery near the Potomac River. Elizabeth Webb, a descendant of Charles Guyton Webb, was a spinster in Anderson County, S.C., that devoted much of her time collecting Webb family information back in the 1930s and 1940s. She recorded the name of my great grandfather John B. Webb in Attala County, Mississippi, as being one of the children of Micajah Webb and Harriet Benson. Micajah was the uncle of Charles Guyton Webb. He left Anderson in the early 1830s. Micajah and William Webb's father was Charles Webb of Deep Creek and Portman Shoals near Anderson. William Webb's mother was an Ezell. Micajah's mother was a Stribling. I know that a hundred years after the Civil War, J.B. Webb's descendants were still suffering from the war. So many men lost their lives, leaving orphans and widows. So many men lost their health because of wounds and could no longer work. Families lost their land, their farm animals, their money, their self- esteem. Children who were born and grew up in the aftermath of the war often had fathers who carried heavy emotional burdens. Those were hard times. If one knows what someone has endured, it makes it easier to understand them -- and maybe even forgive them! As I learned more about the Webb relatives, I discovered that suffering in the family because of the war was widespread. You get the picture. Tell us your family's story before it is lost in time.
