The deceased was a native of South Carolina and spent most of his life in the vicinity of his late residence. He was a man of a cheerful, contented disposition, not inclined to wander from place to place in search of wealth, but possessing a competency, he was content to sit still and enjoy it with his friends and neighbors. David Greer was endowed in a large degree with all the ordinary virtues that adorn humanity. As a farmer, he was thrifty, frugal and economical. As a neighbor he was kind, generous and social. In domestic enjoyment he was happy and cheerful and a good provider. As a citizen, he always took a deep interest in public affairs. As a Christian, he was sincere, humble and consistent in his walk. He was during his whole Christian life, a member of the Baker's Creek Baptist church where he had his first and last connection. He was an affectionate husband, a fond father and a kind master, as the staying of his freedman with him, fully proves. In all the duties of life, he acted in the fear of God; and after a lingering and painful decline, his useful life ended, in the humble hope through the grace of a glorious immortality.
