All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/sc/scfiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Bushy Hartman February 10, 2000 WILL OF JOHN COX 1815 PENDLETON DISTRICT, SC In the name of God Amen, I John Cox of the State of South Carolina and Pendleton District being in sound mind and disposing memory do make and publish this my last will and testament in manner and form following, that is to say 1st after my just dues and debts are paid lawfully I give and bequeath to my beloved Wife Sarah Cox a certain negro man about 29 years of age named Jacob and a negro woman named Margit and her future increase and one negro girl about eleven years old named Mariah with her increase together with my Plantation my Island where I now live lying on the Savannah River on Generostee Creek of at least 300 acres including my islands, my mill and free use of any part of my tract so far as to get timber to keep up the mill and plantation with all my stock of all kinds say horses hogs cattle sheep, geese, household and kitchen furniture and working tools of all kinds and all debts that now is or hereafter shall become due to me that is to say after the sums following are paid and raised out of the property and properties that I have already bequeathed to my wife Sarah Cox which I now bequeath to my children during her natural life or widowhood. I bequeath to my eldest son William Cox sixty dollars I bequeath to my daughter Elizabeth Skelton sixty dollars I give to my son Ned Cox (Edward) sixty dollars I give to my son John Cox sixty dollars I give to my son James Cox sixty dollars I give to my daughter Naomi Cox sixty dollars when she arrives at the age of eighteen I give to my daughter Casiah Cox sixty dollars when she arrives at the age of eighteen I give to my daughter Delilah Cox sixty dollars when she arrives at the age of eighteen I give to my daughter Sarah Cox sixty dollars when she arrives at the age of eighteen I give to my son Tilman Cox sixty dollars when he arrives at the age of twenty one I give to my son Azariah Cox sixty dollars when he arrives at the age of twenty one I give to my son Israel Cox sixty dollars when he arrives at the age of twenty one I give to my son Hiram Cox sixty dollars when he arrives at the age of twenty one I give to my daughter Alley (Elenor) Cox sixty dollars when she arrives at the age of eighteen And from the profits and benefits arising from my lands, goods and tenements as above bequeathed to my wife Sarah Cox during her natural life or widowhood. My will is that all my children that are minors under age save Naomi, if it is her choice, Casiah, Delilah, Sary, Tilman, Isreal, Hiram and Alley each of them be clothed fed supported and receive two years each of schooling while under age without any expense to any of their shares of my estate and my will is that my children that are free, say William, Ned, Elizabeth, James and John, and the rest as they come of age occupy possess and cultivate all the balance of my land which I have bequeathed to my wife Sarah Cox and I appoint my wife Sarah and my sons William Cox and John Cox sole executors in this my last will and testament for me authorizing them at all times as they may deem necessary to dispose of any part of the lands, goods chattles and tenements which I have bequeathed to my wife if lawfully need requires to dischare the sums as the become due bequeathed to my children and my will is that each one of them shall receive their sixty dollars in trade and my will is that at death or close of widowhood of my wife Sarah Cox that all goods negros lands and tenements together with the increase of the same be fairly sold and equally divided betwixt each and all of my children, each share and share alike and I revolk (sic) all other will or wills heretofore by me made at any time ordaining ratified and publishing this to be my last will and testament. Where unto I have hereunto set my hand and seal this eighteenth day of August in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifteen.
