Matheny Cemetery is located off of Dally 
Road within the trees.  It was originally 
the home of Daniel Rush Matheny. He is 
buried there along with his wife Fostina 
Irene Hair Matheny and four of their 
infant/young children.  
Daniel Rush Matheny (1853-1917) has a 
registered patent with the US Patent 
Office for the cotton-plow, dated April 
11, 1882.  It is in the Clemson archives.  
He was a progressive farmer.  While he 
regularly grew cotton, he was also the 
first to successfully grow rye in the 
state of South Carolina (Bamberg Herald, 
May 1909).
