Widow of Eml De La Motta. Who died on the 5th of Elul, 5587, corresponding with 27th August, 1827, aged 56 years. This monument is erected by an elder son, to commemorate the virtues and in eternal affection of a beloved parent. _____________________________________________ Sacred to the Memory of EMANUEL DE LA MOTTA. Whose mortal remains lay enshrined beneath this tomb. He died on the 15th year 5581, corresponding with the 17th May, 1821, aged 60 years 6 months and 15 days. The noblest endowments of man were his, united to a respectability of character, which he sustained with undeviating rectitude. Strict, yet unbigoted in his faith—liberal, yet unostentatious in his charities— dignified, yet assuasive in his manners—he merited the eulogy pronounced, of being truly a good man. This tomb is erected by his bereaved widow and eight children, _____________________________________________ Sacred to the Memory of MR. ISAAC DE LA MOTTA, Who departed this life on the 16th day of June, 1802, aged 50 years 9 months and 8 days. His days of prime, not yet complete, Death struck the sound for his retreat; His chief regret, in flight above, Was leaving those, he much did love; Affection true inscribes the tomb, Commemorating his early doom! _____________________________________________ Sacred to the Memory of JACOB DE LA MOTTA M. D. Born in Savannah, Ga., on the 24th February, A. M. 5549, but during the greatest portion of his life a resident of this city, where he died on the 13th February, A. M., 5605. The faithfulness and integrity with which he performed the duties of various public trusts, won for him the confidence of his fellow citizens. He was highly respected as a physician in the army of the United States, and subsequently in his private practice. He was scrupulous in the observances of his religion, just and charitable in all the relations of life. Who departed this life on the 15th of April, 1842, in the 80th year of her age. Throughout her long and eventful existence, the social virtues were brightly exemplified, but above these shone conspicuously a fervent and sincere reliance on the only true God and a strict observance of his holy law. _____________________________________________ To the Memory of CAMILLUS T. MOISE Who departed this life on the 28th August, 1844, in the 27th year of his age. The highest moral virtues that adorn human nature, most brightly shone in his character. Deeply imbued with feelings of piety from the morning of his existence to its early close, his afflicted kindred feel assured of the translation of his pure and immortal spirit into the presence of that Almighty Being he had so fervently adored. _____________________________________________ Here also rest in close fraternal union, the remains of his youngest brother, PERCIVAL RANDOLPH MOISE. Who died on the 28th August, 1849, in the 22nd year of his age. Beloved in life for his purity and rare virtues, so in death was he universally lamented. Too pure for this world, his spirit early sought a more congenial sphere. And what a happy assurance of heavenly bliss, did his last and pious words convey, "Be not uneasy father—I am prepared to die." _____________________________________________ In Memory of CORDELIA M. JOSEPH SAMPSON, A native of England, he was born in the town of Bury St. Edmonds, and emigrated to this city in the year 1817, and departed this life on the 1st day of January, 1830, in the 30th year of his age. Thus in the bloom of life was he summoned to depart this transitory life to the celestial regions above where the virtuous and just meet their reward after travelling through this vale of tears. He was a kind husband, an affectionate brother, an upright and useful citizen, his hand and heart were always open to assist the unfortunate. During a residence of 20 years in this city, piety and probity marked the course of the deceased. An enlightened mind, highly advantaged by a liberal education rendered him a valuable member of the Hebrew congregation and of several charitable societies, particularly the Hebrew Orphan Society which he was essentially instrumental in creating and he was honour'd by being unanimously elected its first president. At the time of his death and for many years previous to it, he was President of the Hebrew Synagogue in this city.
