(Bill) Floyd (wdfloyd@rfci.net) March 31, 2000 ---------------------------------------- BYARS/EZELL CEMETERY Cherokee County, SC By Brian Ruppe This is a small cemetery located in the Cowpens Battleground park which is in Cherokee County, SC. It is called the Byars/Ezell cemetery. As you go into the park there will be an old road that is now blocked off. From here you'll have to walk. Go right and follow a mowed path until you come to an mowed path that turns left. Go to the end and see what little remains of the cemetery. The story is that Hobo's moved into the old house once owed by James H. Ezell. They used tombstones from the cemetery as stepping stones to the back door. There are two stones standing but I am aware of other family members that are buried here. Nathan Byars, revolutionary war soldier is buried here but his tombstone is locked away in the Cowpens Battleground office due to damage. Capt. James H. Ezell and his wife are buried here also. The stones standing are: John V. Ezell died 6 Mar 1859 s/o J. H. & A. S. Ezell 7y, 7m, 6 d J. B. Martin died 1869, aged 1 y, 6 m. **************************************************************** USGENWEB NOTICE: These electronic pages may NOT be reproduced in any format for profit or presentation by any other organization or persons.
