The Gaffney Ledger August 4, 1917
Fred DeStaffino, who realizes his physcial condition will not permit him going to
war, 
some time ago concieved of an idea which might prove of much value to the 
government . He submitted his idea to the War Department and a day or two ago he 
recieved a letter from Adjutant General of the army in which thanked him kindly, and

told him his idea had been submitted  to the proper authorities. We are not at
liberty 
to give any publicity to Fred's idea, but it would be wonderful if the idea of a
citizen of 
Gaffney would revolutionize war operations on the battle line
