Knox Deed for 309 acres The State of South Carolina Know all men by these presents that we James Phinny, Thomas Phinny, Hugh M. Phinny, Mary S. Phinny, Robert S. Phinny, Christopher S. Phinny, and Charles H. Phinny by our attorney James Hemphill in consideration of the sum of three thousand and seventy four dollars fifty five cents to us paid by William Knox of Chester District in the State aforesaid have granted bargained sold and released and by these presents do grant bargain sell and release unto the said William Knox and his heirs and assigns forever all that plantation or tract of land formerly belonging to Patrick Phinny, decsd, containing three hundred and nine acres, lying in Chester District on the waters of Rocky Creek and bounded by lands of David Wilson, Samuel McCaw, Caleb Barns, B.McFadden, William Knox, Robert Thomson, Christopher S. Phinny, and Eli Hamilton, and hath such firm marks and boundaries as are laid down and described on a plat thereof made by J. G. Hicklin, C.S. dated August 21st, 1857. Together with all and singular the rights, members, hereditaments, and appurtenances to the said premises belonging or in any wise incident or appertaining: To Have and to Hold all and singular the premises before mentioned unto the said William Knox his heirs and asigns forever. And we do hereby bind ourselves our heirs executor and administrators to Warrant and forever defend all and singular the said premises unto the said William Knox his heirs and asigns against us and our heirs and all other persons lawfully claiming in to sum the same or any part thereof. Witness or hands and seals the seventh day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty seven and in the eighty second year of the sovereignty and independence of the United States of America. Phinny and this day appear before me being privately and separately examined by me did declare that she does freely voluntarily and without any compulsion dread or fear of any person or persons whomsover renounce release and forever relinquish unto the within named William Knox his heirs and asigns all her interest and estate and also all her right and claim of dower of in or to all and singular the premises within mentioned and released.
