Contributed to The USGenWeb Archives by: Karen Groce ------------------------- State of So. Carolina Chester District In the name of God, Amen. Whereas I, Isaac McFadden having taken under serious consideration the mortality of man, and feeling the infirmities of old age, and the wastes of disease making progressive advances upon my bodily frame; yet possessing a competent soundness of mind, do conceive it to be dutiful to make the annexed arrangement of my worldly concernments. In the first place, it is my desire to commend my soul to God (from whom it was received) resting on the efficacious mediation and merits of our glorious redeemer and my body to be committed to the dust in a decent & christian manner, without parade or unnecessary expence in the hope of the resurrection from the dead, the reunion of soul & body and the final admission of both into the abodes of bliss in the immediate presence and enjoyment of God. In the second place, it is my will and I do hereby require that payment be made in due time of all the debts which justly lie against me, out of any money or property which I may possess at my decease. Relative to the portion of earthly property with which an indulgent Providence has placed under my stewardship, over and above what may discharge the above demands against me, it is my will that it be disposed of agreeable to the following arrangement. To my well beloved wife Mary I bequeath all that portion of land comprizing sundry tracts or parts of tracts on which I now live, lying & being situate on the West side of the Western fork of a branch heading near to Wylie's pond & running a northerly course to the East of my present dwelling until it empties into the main branch which separates the lands of Isaac McFadden Junr. from the aforesaid tracts, to be possessed and used by her during her life time or during the term she may remain my widow, for the support of herself and that family which may be left with her at my decease. And after her decease or marriage, as the case may be, to descend to, and to be equally divided between my daughters, named Elizabeth Steele, Juliana Susanna, Sally & Anne. To my wife aforesaid I also will for the aforesaid purposes the possession & use of whatever personal property I may be possessed of, at my decease, and not otherwise disposed of in this instrument to be held under the same restrictions as in the above case. Which property at her decease or marriage after making the deductions necessary to satisfy all just demands against the family, and the provisions hereafter to be made in this instrument, shall be equally distributed amongst my children, named Elizabeth Steele, Candor Ralph, Hervey Davies, Juliana Susannah, Sally & Anne. I bequeath to my sons, named James Ewing, Robert, Isaac, John & Thomas respectively the sum of one hundred dollars cash to be paid to them upon the decease or marriage of my beloved wife. I bequeath to my daughter Catherine Ewing one negro girl named Eliza and the sum of two hundred & fifty dollars to be paid at my decease. I bequeath to my son named William Simpson a tract of land adjoining lands owned by Major Greene, Isaac McFadden Junr. & others & being part of a tract originally patented, as is believed, to Thomas Farrel, containing 150 acres, and one hundred and fifty dollars in money to be paid at my decease. I bequeath to my three sons named Candor, Ralph & Hervey Davies, the remaining part of the plantation on which I now live, lying & being situate on the East side of the aforesaid branch & extending to the River to be equally divided between them, provided nevertheless that while they or either of them may continue connected in the family, & until they withdraw to themselves from the family, that the family enjoy the priviledge of tending a reasonable portion of the open land which is embraced in this division of the plantation. Finally I do hereby make, and ordain this to be my last will and testament revoking all others which may have been heretofore made. And I do nominate & appoint my two sons James Ewing McFadden & Isaac McFadden to be the executors thereof. In Witness whereof I have hereto set my name and affixed my seal this 15th day of Feby. in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eighteen.
