Contributed to The USGenWeb Archives by: Beth Collins ********************************************************************** South Carolina, Charleston Dist., Conveyance Book S-5, p. 177 – 178 William Montgomery State South Carolina This Indenture Made the Eight day of June to in the year of our Lord one thousand Seven hundred and Eighty Archibald Connor six between William Montgomery of St. Mark Parish of the one Lease part & Archibald Connor of Prince Frederick Parish of the other part Witnesseth that the said Wm Montgomery for & in Consideration of the sum of Nine hundred Pounds Sterling Hath Bargained & Sold & by these Presents Doth Bargain and Sell unto the said Archibald Connor his Heirs Executors administrators & Assigns a Tract of Land Containing Two Hundred & Seventy Three Acres Land Situated in St. Marks Parish Butting and Bounding Eastward on Samuel Cordes Land Southward & Northward on Land laid out to Major Samuel Cantey the Eighth day March one thousand Seven hundred & sixty five Together with all and Singular the Rights Members & Appurtenances whatsoever to the said Tract of Lands belonging or in any wise Appertaining & the Reversion & Reversions Remainder & Remainders thereof to have and to hold the said Tract of Land an Premises hereby Granted & Sold or meant and Intended to be bargained sold unto the said Archibald Connor his Heirs Executors Administrators & Assigns from the day next before the day of the date of these presents for sharing (?) the term of one whole year Yuilding and Paying therefore unto the said William Montgomery his Heirs Executors & administrators the rent of one Pepper Corn on the last day of the same shall be Lawfully demanded to the Intent & purpose that the said Archibald Connor by virtue hereof & by for a of the statute for Transferring uses unto Possession may be in the actual possession of the Premises herein before mentioned and Intended to be hereby Bargained Sold & be hereby Enabled to Except and take a grant and Release of the Revesion & Inheritance of the same to him & his heirs forever In witness whereof the said William Montgomery hath hereunto set his hand & Seal the day and year above written Wm Montgomery Signed sealed & Delivered in Presence of Chas Fredk Lasesne Isaac Conner Joseph Cartey Recorded and Examined the 4th day of June 1786 by Z Mazy William Montgomery et ux. State South Carolina This Indenture Made this Ninth day to of June in the Year of our Lord One Thousand Seven Archibald Connor hundred & Eighty Six Between William Montgomery and Release Martha his wife of St Marks parish of the one part and Archibald Connor of Prince Frederick Parish of the other part Witnesseth that for and in Consideration of the Sum of Nine hundred pounds Sterling to him in hand paid at & before the sealing & Delivery of these Presents by the said Archibald Connor to the said William Montgomery and Martha his Wife well and truly paid the Receipt thereof the said William Montgomery and Martha his wife doth hereby acknowledge thereof and every part & parcel thereof Do acquite Release Exonerate & discharge the said Archibald Connor his Heirs Executors & Administrators & every of them by these presents they the said William Montgomery & Martha his Wife have granted Bargained Sold Aliened Released & Confirmed & by these Presents Do fully clearly & Absolutely bargain sell Alien Release & Confirm unto the said Archibald Connor in his actual Possession now bring by virture of a Bargain and sale to him thereof made for one Year Indenture of Lease bearing date the day next before the day of the date hereof & by force of the Statute for Transferring uses into Possession and to his heirs & Assigns a Tract of Land Containing two hundred & Twenty three Acres of Lands Situated in St Marks Parish Butting & Bounding Eastward on Samuel Cordes Lands on the Southward & Northward on Land laid out to Major Samuel Cantey & the westward on Lands belonging to Susanna Bonnett Granted to William Cantey it being part of a five Hundred acre Tract bearing date the Eighth day of March one thousand seven hundred & Sixty five together with all and Singular the Rights Member & Appurtenances whatsoever the said Tract of Land belonging or in any wise appertaining & the Reversion & reversions Remainder & remainders Issues & Profits thereof and also all the Estate Right Title Interest Possession Property profit claim demands whatsoever Either in Law or Equity of the said William Montgomery and Martha his Wife of in or out of the said Premises To have and to hold the said Tract of land Premises hereby granted & Released or meant or Intended to be granted & released unto the said Archibald Connor his Heirs and Assigns forever and they the said William Montgomery and Martha his Wife and his Heirs and every of them the said Land the premises unto the said Archibald Connor his heirs and Assigns against the said William Montgomery & Martha Their Heirs Executors and every other person whatsoever claiming or to claim by from or under them or any of them or any Person or Persons whatsoever shall will warrant & defend by these Presents In Witness whereof the said William Montgomery and Martha his Wife hath hereunto set their hands & seals the day and Year above written Wm Montgomery/LS/ Martha Montgomery /LS/ _____ hundred left out in the Seventeenth Line} signed sealed and Delivered in the Presence of Chas Fredk Lasesne Isaac Connor Joseph Cantey Receive the day & year first within written of the within named Archibald Connor the Sum of Nine hundred Pounds Sterling it being the Consideration Money within mentioned Received by us Wm Montgomery Martha Montgomery Witness Chas Fredk Lasesne Isaac Connor Joseph Contey Memorandum on this 12th day of June 1786 Personally appeared before me John Palmer one of the Justices assigned to keep the Peace in Charleston District Charles Frederick Lesesne who being duly sworn made oath that the saw Willm Montgomery & Martha Montgomery sign seal & as their act & Deed Deliver the within Instrument of Conveyance & that he saw Isaac Connor and Joseph Cantey sign as witnesses thereto and that he saw the within mentioned Willm Montgomery & Martha sign the Receipt their Indorsed & Further the Deponent saith not John Palmer J.P.& T.
