Contributed to The USGenWeb Archives by: Mary Ann Million mam@itexas.net 9 Nov 1997 -------------------------- CAMDEN DISTRICT, SOUTH CAROLINA WILL OF MATTHEW PATTON, DATED 4 MARCH 1779 Will of Matthew Patton In the name of God Amen, I Matthew Patton of Camden District intending to travel, and knowing that it is appointed for all men to die do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner following Imprimis, It is my will that all my lawful debts be discharged as soon as convenient Item, it is my will that my wife Rebekah shall have her living on the Plantation now belonging to me, during her widowhood and that all her apparel her saddle, and her horse such as she shall choose shall be her own property, and also a bed and furniture. Item, it is my will that the remainder of my personal estate be set to Publick sale as soon, as convenient and the amount of sd sale to be equally divided between my wife Rebekah aforesd- and my children Alexander, Margaret, Trisham, Ann, Mary, Martha, Rebekah and if my wife Rebekah be now with child that child likewise shall be an equal sharer. Item I will and bequeath to my sons Alexander and Trisham the plantation or tract of land wheron I now live to them their heris and afsigns forever to be equally divided between according as my Executors shall think most proper. Provided neverthelefs if my Executors with the consent of my two sons above mentioned shall see it more to their benefit to sell the said land than to retain it, it shall and may be lawful for my Excutors to sell it and make a proper title to the ourchaser, and the purchase money to be equally divided between my two sons aforesd. It is my will that my children shall be decently schoolled and clothed at the discretion of my Executors. Item, it is also my will that if any of my daughters above mentioned. Item, it is my will that if any of my sons above said die before he arrives at the age of 21 years then his part shall devolve to the surviving brother and if both should die before they arrive at the age of 21 years then their part shall be equally divided amongst all the others as above mentioned--- It is my will and I do constitute and appoint my wife Rebekah and my brother-in-law John Walker to be my Executors of this my last will and testament, and I do hereby ratify and confirm this and confirm this and no other to be my last will and testament - Witnefs my hand and seal this fourth day of March 1779.
