The State of South Carolina Edgefield District By Oliver Towles Esq. Ordinary of Edgefield District. These are to authorize and empower you, or any three or four of you, whose names are hereunder written, to repair to all such parts and places within this State, as you shall be directed unto by Sarah Q. Lott and John M. Cogburn of the goods and chattels, rights and credits of Marshall Lott deceased, wheresoever any of the said good and chattels are, or do remain within the said parts and places, and which shall be shown unto you by the said Administrators and there view and appraise all and every the said goods and chattels, being first sworn on the Holy Evangelists of Almighty God to make a true and perfect inventory and appraisement thereof, and to cause the same to be returned under your hands, or any three or four of you, unto the said Sarah Q. Lott and John M. Cogburn on or before the fourth day of January next. Witness Oliver Towles Esq. Ordinary of the said District, the fourth day of November in the year of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and thirty nine and in the sixty fourth year of American Independence. To Messrs: Jesse Gomillion, Elisha Barronton, Harman Gall (?), William Watkins, William Carson MEMORANDUM-That on the sixteenth day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty nine personally appeared before me, J. Cogburn, one of the Justice assigned to keep the peace in said district Jesse Gomillion, Harmon Gullmon and Elisha Barronton being three of the appraisers appointed to appraise the goods and chattels of Marshall Lott, late of Edgefield deceased, who being duly sworn made oath that they would make a just and true appraisement of all and singular he goods and chattels of the said Marshall Lott deceased, as shall be produced by the administrators of the Estate of the said deceased and that they would return the same certified under their hands unto the said administrators on or before the fourth day of January next. Sworn the day and year above written before me: Jesse Gomillion, Harmon Gallman, Elisha Barronton Administration Bond-Edgefield Advertiser Print State of South Carolina Edgefield District Know all men by these presents that we, Sarah Q. Lott, John M. Cogburn, John Lott and James Spann are held and firmly bound unto Oliver Towles Esq Ordinary of the district aforesaid, in the full and just sum of Six Thousand dollars, good an lawful money of the said State, to be paid to the said Oliver Towles, attorney or assigned to which payment sell and truly to be made to be made, we bind ourselves and ever of us, ours and every of our heirs, executors and administrators for the whole and in the whole jointly and severally, firmly by these presents. Sealed with our Seals, and Dated this fourth day of November Anno Domini, one thousand eight hundred and thirty nine and in the sixty fourth year of American Independence. The condition of the above obligation is such that if the above bound Sarah Q. Lott and John M. Cogburn, administrators of the goods, chattels, and credits of Marshall Lott deceased, do make a true and perfect inventory of all and singular the goods, chattels, and credits of the said deceased, which have or shall come to the hands, possession, or knowledge of the Sarah Q. Lott and John M. Cogburn or into the hands or possession of any other person or persons for them and the same so made, do exhibit into the said Court of Ordinary, when they shall be thereunto required, and such goods, chattels, and credits do well and truly administer according to law, and do make a just and true account of their actings and doing therein when required by the said Court, and all the rest of the said goods chattels and credits which shall be found remaining upon the account of the said administration, the same being first allowed by the said Court, shall deliver and pay into such persons respectively as be entitled to the same by law and if it shall hereafter appear that any last will and testament was made by the said deceased and the same be proved in courts and the executors obtain a certificate of the probate thereof, and the said administrators in such case if required surrender and deliver up the said letters of administration, then this Obligation to be void or else to remain in full force. Cogburn hath applied to me for Letters of Administration, on all and singular the goods, and chattels, rights and credits of Marshall Lott late of the District aforesaid, deceased, These are, therefore, to cite and admonish all and singular, the kindred and creditors of the said deceased, to be and appear before me, a tour next Ordinary's Court for the said District, to be holden at Edgefield Court House on the fourth day of November next, to show cause, if any, why the said administration should not be granted. Given under my hand and seal, this twenty third day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred an d thirty nine and in the sixty fourth year of American Independence.
