Twenty Eight day of September in the Year of our Lord One Thousand seven hundred and Eighty nine between and in the fourteenth Year of the Independence of the united States of America Between Matthew Gayle of the County of Edgefield and State of South Carolina of the one part and William Dozier of same County and State of the other part Witnesseth that said Mathew Gayle for and in consideration of the sum of One thousand pounds to him in hand paid by the said William Dozier at or before the sealing and delivery hereof the Receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged Hath granted Bargained Aliened remised conveyed released & confirmed and by these presents doth Grant bargain sell alien release convey and confirm unto the said William Dozier now in his actual possession being by virtue of a bargain a sale to him made for one whole year and by force of the Statutes for Transferring of uses into possession and to his heirs and assigns forever Two hundred and fifty acres of Land lying on the South side of little Saluda river being part of a tract of Land containing Three Hundred acres that was Granted to Robert Davis by Grant on the fifteenth day of May Anno Dom 1772 and the Two hundred and fifty acres hereby granted & sold was conveyed by Robert Davis the Twenty first day of June 1773 and conveyed by sd William Jones to Mathew Gayle by decd dated the 26th day of June 1783 reference thereunto being had may more fully and at Large appear Together with all and singular the rights members and appurtenances unto the said Two hundred and fifty acres of Land belonging or in anywise appertaining to the only proper use Benefit and Behoof of him the said William Dozer his heirs Executors and assigns with full and General warranty not only against him the said Mathew Gayle his heirs Executors and administrators but against all and every other person or persons whatsoever directly or indirectly without any manner of Condition Trust Mortgage Judgement Execution or Incumbrance whatsoever unto the said William Dozer his heirs Excrs administrators or assigns in fee simple, against him the said Gayle his heirs and assigns shall and will warrant and forever defend the one part and William Dozer of the same County & State of the other part Witnesseth that the said Mathew Gayle for and in consideration of the sum of One thousand pounds to him in hand well and truly paid by the sd William Dozer at or before the sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged Hath granted bargained Aliened remised conveyed released & twenty Sixth day of June 1773 reference thereunto being had may more fully appear – Together with all and singular the Rights members and appurtenances unto the said Two Hundred acres of Land belonging or in any appertaining to the only proper use Benefit and Behoof of him the said William Dozer his heirs executors & administrators but against all and every other person or persons Hundred and Eighty nine Before me Russell Wilson one of the Justices assigned to keep the peace for the County aforesaid Personally appeared John Bradshaw and made oath that he was personally present and saw the within Mathew Gayle and Mary his wife sign seal and Deliver the within Lease Instrument of writing for the uses within mentioned and he this Deponant further saieth on his said oath that he was personally present and see the aforesaid Mathew Gayle sign the Receipt hereof ______ and that he this Deponent with Edward Luten did Subscribe there names as witnesses there unto Sworn to and
